First rule: have a gun. A .22lr is better than vulgar language.
And Aguila makes very decent quality ammunition. I shoot Aquila sub-sonic ammo through my 10/22 and it's very reliable. I've had the fewest misfires with thier stuff. In comparison, with Federal 550 bulk packs I get three or four duds.

what are the ballistics? regardless dont use one for defense unless you have no other choices please.

A little extra velocity has nothing to do with validating the .22 as self defense round.

You might want to check it for muzzle flash. I shot CCI stingers in my 4" Ruger and they flash more than any 9mm or 38SP load I've ever shot.
I haven't had a chance to chrono stingers or velocitors from a handgun yet, but the articles I've read have them going faster than standard ammo even with short barrels.

Generally speaking most .22 long rifle loads reach max. velocity at about 16 inches. Most ammo companies in the U.S. test their ammo in 24 inch bbls.
Now I don't know if the 16" rule holds true for the hyper velocity rounds. I would think to get that kind of velocity with a 40gr. bullet one would have to use a slower powder with a longer bbl. If your gun only has a 16 or 18" bbl. you're still gonna get higher velocity. I tried the cci velociters when they first came out. They were flatter shooting, but accuracy was only so so. To be fair I only shot it out of 1 of my rifles.
.22's are great for hunting, plinking, target shooting and in a pinch as a self defence weapon (especially out of a semi auto rifle).

I've probably shot more .22s than everything else combined, and as much as I like them, they'd be my last choice for HD. Better than matching claws with a BG, but I'd feel much better holding onto at least a .38Spl.

Still can't locate any interceptors. Basically they are 10% faster than the cci velocitor. Just gotta test them as you never know.

Not to jack your thread or anything but i don't see what the big deal is about using .22 for SD.

Because the .22LR cartridge is as long as the .22 centefire bullet. It does not have the same impact for self defense.

The .22 is better than nothing
But...it is NOT recommended as a self-defense caliber! That having been said, if it were all I had, I would plan on dumping the entire clip into the bad guy.

22lr for self defense ?
After a lot of comparison of muzzle energy I found that there are a few 22lr brands that exceed the muzzle energy of a 380 ACP. Such as the Aguila Super Maximum - 22 Long Rifle 30 Grain Plated Lead Hollow Point that exceeds 200 ft lbs of muzzle energy a 1750 fps (from an 18" barrel).
Just for kicks I tried it a Beretta Bobcat (well known to be finicky as to the ammo it's fed). The Bobcat only has a 2.4" barrel so I know I won't get 200+ lbs of muzzle energy from the short barrel of the Bobcat but I tested several well known brands of hunting, hi speed and hyper velocity ammunition. Not only did the Bobcat function best with the Aguila Super Maximum HP, it also performed the best.
I tested each brand by stapling a piece of 3/8 thick floor carpeting to a 2X4 pc of wood. Shooting a different new of carpet and 2X4 for each brand from approximately 3 feet away the hottest hunting brands went thru the carpet and about 1-1/8" into the 2X4. When I hit it with the Aguila Super Maximum 30 grain plated lead HP, It zipped thru the carpet and upon inspecting the other side of the 2X4 I thought it went right thru it. There was a splintered spot about the size of a half dollar that looked like tooth picks. When I spread the splinters to check the damage I found the bullet still inside the 2X4 about 1/16" shy of exiting the 2X4. the results of the Aquila 30 gn were simular to the 40gn Stinger other than the Aguila expaned better .
I am not an expert ballistition and don't recommend this for anyone for self defense because anything can happen, with any weapon large or small but I am confident in my shot placement and the Aguila ammunition .
So in short , if I can't get to the big gun I have confidence the Aguila will get the job done.
These are just my unprofessional results

The caliber does not mater in the least, IF you put the pill in the right spot. Had a High Standard HDM issued to me, it worked perfectly 100% of the time.

By the way, I looked at that Aquilla Intercepter ammo a couplea years ago and found it was getting typical reviews with common failures to fire. Went with a brick of Velocitor which is pricey(er) but super reliable as well as accurate and the most potent available (with Interceptor). Now THIS stuff would make a great self defense .22 LR ammo...
...kidding! But if you had to rely on .22 LR for that CCI's Velocitor'd be the stuff. One of the reasons I bought it was to give a box to a girfriend I was about to break up with whom I wanted to be best situated to defend herself. Last time I saw her was Valentines Day that year and gave her a brand new spare nickel 10-rnd mag for her Marlin 795 .22 semi-auto rifle. Plus that box of the best .22 LR available for security IMO...
