We're going into summer here and I'm trying to decide which I should carry, if either of these. I'm going to order a belt from Milt Sparks and I'd also like to order a holster, but the wait list for the VM2 is insane. I'm really hoping it's not the same for the belts, but wouldn't be surprised if it was. The fact that I can't seem to find a VM2 for sale speaks volumes in itself; it seems people just aren't getting rid of them. Anyway, what would you guys carry during the summer between these two guns? I'll most likely be wearing a lot of shorts and light shirts, so maximum concealability would be a plus. Obviously IWB is probably going to be required.

The thing is, I think the 1911's sights are off, and that may be the reason I don't shoot it well. I need to send it back to Springfield for a tune-up (it's a Springfield Loaded). I can make one large hole with the Glock. What do you guys think about which gun to carry and which carry rig to use?

If the Glock works better for you carry that one and when the Springer comes back from its tune up, maybe add that into the mix :D

Carry both of them this summer and determine which one will be your primary for the future. I am only 5'8" and I carry my PT1911 without any issues with an IWB holster. I also carry the XD45 service, which is a little bigger than the G19 without any issues. Only you can determine which feels better for you. No matter how many posts you start asking for opinions. What works for one person, won't work for another. Those IWB holsters are very nice for summertime.

You could buy one of those fanny holsters aka "fag bag" and it will fit the G19 perfectly. They are actually really fast to unzip, even though they don't look so manly, IMO.

YMMV

"Carry the one that works best for YOU"; sound advice my friend~!

+1

I prefer the lighter Glock 19. In summer I even go lighter with a pocket carry S&W 642/442.

If the criminal engages you at 100yds, you should have brought a rifle.

I recommend that you wear the one that gives you the best results and right now that sounds like the Glock.

I'm a 1911 devotee, and the grip angle on Glocks does not agree with me. However, you're shooting your Glock far better than you're shooting your 1911 - So carry the Glock 19.

I carry a 1911 in a Milt Sparks holster... it's worth the wait BTW.

I reciently carried a Glock 19 for a month as part of my familirazation process I was putting myself through.

I was SOOOOOO glad to strap my 1911 back on.

But use what works best for you.

Edited to add: Holster for the glock:

I say order from them cause if it's on the website they have it in stock... unlike SOME other places...

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. Do you think I'm going to have a more difficult time concealing the Glock than the 1911? I'm 6' and around 200lbs.

Nomad - Did you carry the G19 in a Sparks holster or the Bladetech? Which Sparks holster do you use to carry the 1911?

Do you guys recommend the VM2 over the others? I think it's the one I've heard the best things about. Unfortunately I can't exactly try before I buy :(

I carried the Glock in a Comptac and the Blade tech I linked to.

The Glock is ALOT thicker. I can fit a 1911 and a spair mag in the waistband of 34" pants with me, but I go up to a 36" with JUST the Glock.

I use a Summer Special, and have one for a 4" and one for a 5"

I have a Summer Special 2 on order for my Kimber Warrior because I want a SLIGHTLY more FBI style cant.

I'm 6" 185, and don't think you'll have any troubles concealing ether. (Although the 1911 is flatter and is easier to conceal)
Anyway, you should be able to CCW ether.
Think of one as a spair if you get into a shooting and your primary is taken as evidence.

Edited to add: A Buddy carries his 17 in a Galco knock off of a Milt Sparks Summer special... I've tried it... it works well.

Yeah I bet I could order a holster for each gun and sell the one I didn't like for the price I paid since it takes so long to get them new. I know if I saw someone selling one that they just bought to try, for the same price they sell new, I'd buy it.

I myself don't like Glocks, and I LOVE 1911's. However carry the one you shoot better with, and at this time it sounds like the Glock. So that should be your choice........tkarter run in place for 3 min. then put all your rounds in a 10in circle.

quote by longeyes : "One large hole" with the G19? I think you answered your own question.

+1 :)

Concealment

Both weapons you mentioned (G-19 or a 5" 1911) are both concealable;
"how" just depends on your build. I'm 5'10" tall, and weigh maybe 207
lbs; and I can conceal the 5" 1911 by using an IWB holster with the
outside belt loops with NO problem at all. ;) :D

I carry a 1911 and a G19 (not at the same time:) ) and shoot both equally well. The 1911 is an easy carry IWB,but for really hot summer months I prefer the lighter weight and compactness of the 19,or even a G26.
When it's hot and clothing is light the G19 just packs better.

I carry a G19 in a MS Watch Six, holster, very comfy. A gun belt helps hold it up better. The W6 holster is very stiff, and although there is no steel reinforced mouth, reholstering is very fast. This thing is like plastic:D The 16 week wait is worth it:)

I can shoot but I cannot legally carry:(
If I could carry I would choose my Glock 19 or Glock 26 over any of my 1911s and I could and did carry a 1911A1 many years ago.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just got off the phone with Scott at Milt Sparks. Placed an order for two VM2's, one for my Glock 19 and one for my Springfield Loaded 1911, and a belt. They should be here sometime next year :p
