Aimpoint, they're not just for combat rifles.

I recently purchased the Aimpoint 9000L red dot from Midway, they were on sale $100 off. This is the 4 MOA sight. I've got this Remington 7600 pump, in 30-06, that I bought about 1 year ago. This is a very rough rifle, thought it might be a good truck gun, or candidate for Duracoat project. Anyhow, got it mounted and I think it looks pretty good. It took five shots to zero dead on at 25 yards without a bore sighter. Later I was able to shoot a 200 yard target, although sitting with my elbows on my knees, I was still able to hit a 8 inch target. I think that should be deer accurate. On a bright Alabama day at 1p.m., I can see the dot very well, and don't even have the brightness on the highest setting. This is my first experience with a red-dot, or the 30-06 caliber, and overall I am very pleased. So, what do you all think? Like it, rifle blasphemy, or neutral? I think it will be my new go-to for a truck gun, or casual walking of the woods during deer season. It might also see some tree stand use, since I mostly hunt short range in the woods. Also, sight in and testing ammo was Remington factory with 150 grain Cor Lokt.

I have a Bushnell Trophy redot that I installed on a .22 rifle that I need to dial in... and I have a reflex red dot standing by to install on my 6.8 SPC II upper that should arrive tomorrow. I LIKE the idea of quick target acquisition and to have both eyes open while doing so. I'm lookin' forward to seein' how I shoot with this "new to me" means of aim. So... I'm with ya on the whole concept.

Thanks for the replies gents. Kjay, your going to be happy with the 9000L. I noticed this morning that the sale had been extended to 06/24.

I'm hoping to slap one of those on a Ruger MKII Magnum some time in the next year.

Aimpoint likes to advertise them bolted to safari rifles... Do you think it would really handle the recoil?

I can't say about recoil on a magnum. I've only ran about 15 rounds of '06 through this one, but it's doing fine so far. Check the reviews on Midway USA. I almost think I remember a positive review of one on a larger caliber rifle. The reviews were part of what made up my mind to buy. Hope that helps a little.

Aren't those new "hunting" aimpoints around $800 bucks?

 Maybe you're thinking of ACOGs or something? Aimpoint's most expensive model, the M4 series of reddots (same as issued to soldiers in the Army) are around $800. The Micros are around $550-600, and the others are lesser (with the 9000L running around $380, I think)

All are tough. I do believe an Aimpoint will stand up to safari magnum level recoil, no problem.

A hunting experience drove me into looking at lighted reticle sights and I believe Aimpoint offers the best. I have a CompC3 2moa and a micro H-1, love 'em both.

Yea, those.

From what I've read, they are basically just a 9000L, but with a 34mm tube, as opposed to the standard 30mm used on the previous models.... And for only 260% of the already considerable price. What a steal. :scrutiny:

The Aimpoint Hunter series is the one that inspired me to buy the 9000L. I saw it in Shooting Times magazine. I had my computer nearby so I looked it up on Midway thinking that I wanted it. Until I saw the price, that is. Scroll down, and bingo!, the 9000L was on sale. Now here we are, and I'm still likin' it.

Yes. Here's an Aimpoint on a Ruger Redhawk revolver chambered in .454 Casull.

I'm reasonably sure that the optic is subjected to more acceleration on a magnum revolver than on a magnum rifle.
