AK 47 newbie question

Going to get an AK 47 for the son. Looking to spend $500-$700. What is my best option? Thanks Y'all

Probably closer to $700-$750 nowadays, but look into a Bulgarian milled AK. I have the SLR 95 and must say it is very accurate for the AK platform. I shot it along w/ my friends Norinco, Global Trades and Saiga, and the SLR blew them away accuracy-wise.

Solid rifle that I have experienced NO problems with at all.

Yes seriously,,, and we completley explain the whole deal with the VZ 58 in the item description
Which makes the inaccurate title even more confusing.

I also notice there's no such explanation when you click on the "Dravunov Style Sniper Rifle" PSL. Though there is a mention of it having a "real wood Dragunov stock set" which is odd, since a real Dragunov stock set wouldn't fit a PSL...

Oh, and check out the Quote feature, it's pretty nifty.

Ok, First trip to range. How do you adjust windage on these rifles? No owners manual.

The front sight post is inserted into a larger metal rod that is horizontal. That metal rod gets drifted left/right to adjust windage. You can do it with a punch, but several companies sell a "AK/SKS sight adjusting tool" for $10-20 that acts like a small press and makes it simpler and easier to do.

A handful of AK pattern rifles, mostly RPK types, have a windage adjustment on the rear sight as well, but most do not.

OK I whacked that drift pin on the front sight pretty good with a brass punch but she doesnt want to move. Anything need to be loosened first or do I just need to get a little more aggresive? Dont want to bust anything.

Not really an AK despite some superficial external similarities, but the Vz58 is a great little rifle. I really like mine.

Since it's an AK I'm 95% sure you just need to hit it harder, but I am not 100%. Maybe someone with more expertise like Nalioth can chime in. Long term I would get the adjusting tool, it's cheap and simple.

Important note: there are two different VZ-58s on the market right now, one made by CZ with all new parts, the other made by Century using parts kits. Quality will be a lot higher on the CZ model, as is price.

I'll 2nd the SLR-95. I love mine and will never part with it. I imagine they're pretty hard to come by nowadays, so the alternative would be to go with an Arsenal SA M-7 milled variant, probably the closest you'd get to an SLR-95 in build and accuracy.

Have you guys even read the thread? He already picked up his rifle. This was started over a month ago.
