I want to buy an Ak I've read almost everything on this and other sites about it my question to the other members are which one would you buy, and from which manufacturer ,please give me your experience(s)/ advice i am planning to order as soon as possible more than likely by 11/6/08

I just ordered a saiga. from what I could gather it's the best for what I have to spend. I plan to convert it.

If you are on a budget get a WASR-10 and 1000rds. They aren't the prettiest but they run fine and shoot like most AKs. Mine has been great just check for mag wobble, canted front sight, and canted gas block.

thanks for the info guys, i have narrowed it down to these ak manufacturers,, Krebs customs , Lancaster arsenal or Arizona response system , which way would you go?

Speaking from experience here....get a Saiga in either .223 or 7.62 for $300-350. Then either do the AK conversion yourself or pay one of your local shops to do it. The conversion should cost no more than $200. You can even buy them preconverted for about $550, if you can find em.

If you want to do it yourself and aren't mechanically inclined, you can even buy high cap mags and pistol grip that are specifically made for Saiga. Lots of options here for a quality, brand new AK that's made in the Kalashnikov factory.

I have an Arsenal SAM 7 A1R Which is a fantastic rifle, but it cost me almost $1100 over a year ago. I just bought an AK from ARS for $600, and I have to say for the money difference it was probably the best buy. Mark puts out a well built, well finished rifle with one of the nicest triggers (he uses a Tasco double hook) I've used on any AK. Looks like all the AKs are going up in price, so it really depends on your budget. I don't have a Krebs or a Lancaster, but I have heard nothing but good about them, so whichever way you go, I'm sure you will be happy with your AK. However, my vote would be for the ARS.

I bought a .223/5.56 Saiga AK and converted it myself. Great rifles for the money. Classic Arms has good prices on them. I would stick with a US made caliber ...........
