If you were to only own one AK would you want a folding stock or a fixed.

I haven't seen a really nice looking folding stock for the AK except for the underfolders.

With an underfolder it's impossible (at least for me) to get a proper cheekweld.

If it was the Russian full stock, left side folding version, I'd go that route, best of both worlds, otherwise, I'd have to take the full stock. I have a Romainian side folder that works very well and is not uncomfortable to shoot, shoulders and feels better than it looks it should, but the full stock is still better.

Folder. Another "evil" feature, if Schumer/Boxer/Feinstein/Clinton don't like it I want it!

--wally.

I have only one AK and it has a fixed stock. I find that I get a better cheek weld with a fixed stock than with the folders I've tried. (I had an AK with a Tapco folder and bartered it off for some work at the house.)

While unnatural looking, I think the adapters which allow you to mount an AR15 telestock on an AK may be the best of both worlds WRT to fixed/folding stocks.

Full stock.

Although the sidefolders for the Krinkov, which are shaped like a skeletonized full buttstock, have merit.

for a "using gun" -- fixed or that funky telestock adaptor thingie... either way, you can manage a decent cheek weld.

for a "just plain evil lookin' AK toy" -- underfolder.

:)

I voted fixed, but the whole truth is, if I could only keep one of my AK's, it would be the one with the collapsable CAR-style stock. My second choice would be a fixed polymer stock, then fixed wood, followed by a good side-folder and last choice would be an under-folder.

Thanks so far guys. This will be a shooter plain and simple.

I'd love to buy a couple but right now I'm spreading my money over a range of things so its one gun per style at the moment.

A Romanian (or East German--basically the same) side folder allows you to get a good cheek weld. It also allows operation of the safety and trigger with the stock folded, if you ever need to do that.

After I put the Romy folder on my AK, I found that my accuracy with the stock extended was about what it was with the fixed stock.

With the stock folded, accuracy was about what you'd expect, shooting from the hip.

If owned only one, would keep the recently purchased underfolder (built on Russian kit). Cheek weld is acceptable, and not intended as precision rifle. The slant brake makes the light weight underfolder easier to control than my full wood stocked Bulgarian slr-93, which is much heavier. Not that the bulgarian is tough to control.

An underfolder is extremely spacesaving, when folded up. The dual bars on the underfolder spread what little recoil there is, over a wider area.
