Finally got my AK clone (Vector) to jam. I wasn't trying, but it did happen.

Ammo was Brown Bear fmj, but it had been firing off my remaining pile of Wolf just prior. *not gonna be buying anymore Woof in x39 if I can help it. The Bear/Barnaul is much cleaner and quite a bit more accurate out of this particular rifle.

Failure to feed round - hung up on the forward motion of the bolt - round canted upward toward the rear sight. Put a nice dent in the side of the steel case too. Cleared and continued on.

All my rifles get cleaned following range days, but I have been slacking with the Kalash. This was it's third trip out since it's last scrub down.

Anyway, it has gone over 5k without ever a hiccup, so no biggy in my book. Was a suprised though as the venerable AK has such a huge rep for never, ever stopping. Must be the old never say never thingy.

Well, it happens. It's rare, but it happens. I've seen many AK's jam at the range. Each one is capable of it. But, like I said, it is rare.

That is why it is crucial to learn to clear a jam quickly, regardless of platform. A lot of AK owners are of the mindset that by buying an AK that they've bought reliability that can allow them to neglect thinking about jams or malfunctions. It often becomes absent from their mindset. Which is a recipe for disaster. Never become complacent.

AK is a rock solid reliable platform that gives you the greatest odds against malfunction, but like all man-made things, they are not perfect. Nothing is perfect.

Another factor is ammo. You might have a rifle that God himself built to be perfectly reliable, but if the ammo is defective, that rifle becomes irrelevant. The most reliable rifle on Earth cannot help but have a stoppage when a case head gets ripped off and the case is stuck in the chamber because the case (brass/steel) had a flaw...

A rifle is a system. The system consists of: The rifle, the magazine and the ammo. All 3 have to work. One has an issue, the whole system stops. That is why for defensive purposes, whether it be a handgun or rifle, it is wise to buy the best quality magazine you can get, and test it, buy the best ammo you can get, and test it, and buy the best firearm you can afford, and test it.
