I bought a WASR10 AK47 last week and didn't notice the front sight was tilted to the left a little bit. Not much but maybe less than an 1/8". I mean the entire front sight housing that fits directly onto the barrel and seems to be attached with 2 pins.

Now the windage adjustable sight in the middle was set to the right.

My question are:

1. Can this be fixed?
2. Do they test fire these guns before sale and was the front sight set to the right to compensate for the housing off to the left?

I have the windage and elevation tool to set the front sight but can the housing itself be corrected?

I went back to the gun dealer and asked to see another AK just like mine and the same condition was present just in the opposite directions.

Any help would be appriciated.

1) Yes. Either deal with the manufacturer of the rifle or find a smith that will fix it. It's a moderately advanced DIY project.

2) Probably not test fired, maybe had a bore sighter on it. Adjusting the front sight base will probably let you center the front sight, from your description.

Sometimes the monkeys do get WASRs right the first time, but don't count on it.

Thanks BSW
Will the barrel need to be removed? Or will removing the 2 pins do the job.

It's probably only a matter of cosmetics

It won't matter if the front sight block is canted a little, so long as you have enough adjustment to get it zeroed. It may look funny, but it won't affect your ability to shoot straight. We have several of these WARSs and SARs, some of them canted more than others, but they're all zeroed properly.

It therefore depends on how motivated you are toward making it look pretty. You'd run into trouble only when you run out of windage adjustment.

I fixed it myself. Pop the two pins out, smack it with a rubber mallet, replace pins.
Thanks a million strat81. I can handle it. Looks pretty straight forward. My weapon is new so It should be pretty easy especially with the help of the tuturial. Thanks again. :D I could kick myself for buying this weapon in this condition but I just didn't notice it. I'll be more careful in the future.

It looks like my gas tube is pretty straight. The front sight mount is definately the culprit.

Omnivore, I realize it is mostly a cosmetic item but it will bother the heck out of me every time I look down the sights. :)

One easy thing you can do is open up the notch on the rear sight, just taking it off one side. I think the AK's notch is too small anyway. Might not make it perfectly straight, but it will help.

Take it off the opposite side of where the front sight post has been adjusted to (or the same side that you want the front sight to move back to).
