Hey guys, I have a very nice InRange Ak74 that came with one of those bar side folding stocks. While its not necessarily bad I would like to have a good cheek weld on it and it seems hard to do this with the wire folder. Can any of you tell me if it is easily converted to take say a Vltor buffer and receiver extension and then add on some sort of Magpul adjustable stock or is it going to have to be sent off for this? Thanks for the help.

I believe Kvar sells the updated, plastic (or as it is called, "polymer") stocks. Perhaps it will offer a better cheekweld for you.

I never noticed an issue with the steel folding stock, and used it with great result for a few years. Unless you mount that monster night vision scope on the rail, in which case I understand your dilemma.

Is this an AKS-74 style with the triangle side-folder?

Like so?

If it is, the rear trunion is different than a standard AKM and the receiver is cut specially to fit it.

A polymer side-folder stock from the later AK-100 series should work though.

I believe he refers to it as a wire folder which would indicate an East German or Romanian with standard rear trunion. OP?

The rifle itself does not look like the above but the folder does. In much better shape I might add to. And, its a lever deal vs. a push button. it locks up solid as can be but just doesn't provide any real estate for a proper cheek weld. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. I love the way it looks but its just not as practical as it needs to be.

So, does anyone want to tell me why I could not take a side folder like from the Mako Group, undo the two screws on the tang, slide the old folder out, replace it with new one, and tighten down screws on the tang and call it a day? Everyone I have talked to said oh you need to send it off to have rivets drilled out and it may cause trunion problems etc. I don't see how the trunion even comes into play here.

If it looks like the one in the pics you posted you can remove the screws and replace with anything you like.
