I tried out a Arsenal AK the other day....the AK design makes me scrunched up with my long arms and the short forearm on the AK... I don't have a relaxed handling feel when shouldering it Besides a Saiga and SKS, is there any other semi-auto mil type, rifles that would be a good one to get in 7.62x39 that would accommodate my long arms? I want to look at non-AR types. Does the Galil come in 7.62x39? PTR makes the 91 style rifle in a 7.62x39 but the price is over a grand.:banghead: I want to go with 7.62x39 since this seems to be cheaper ammo wise than the .223/5.56 or is this going to change in the next year or so?

The 9.5" stock should give you more to work with, and would be a tacticool upgrade.

I prefer the "cut-the-tang" version because it makes the stock look more "integral" with the receiver.

This one is the "medium" (8.5") stock.

But if you want to add even MORE length (1.5 inches extra) to a folder-stock, you can go with the version that allows you to basically bolt the whole folder mechanism to the rear end of the receiver without any permanent modifications to the tang-trunion.

I don't know what the handling feel on your PTR-91 is, so I cannot tell you.
If it is standard, the NATO length should work.

I am 6'5" and about 210 pounds. The standard stock on the AK is way too short for me. It thumps me in the face with the rear of the receiver cover, and like you, it makes me feel claustrophobic. There are options though. As mentioned, you could simply slap a NATO length stock on it, probably as part of a stock set. K-VAR Corp has them in a variety of colors from black to plum, and they don't sell anything crappy, unlike TAPCO, which can be hit or miss.

ACE is also good stuff. My brother has the Galil style on his AK. It is rock solid and almost bombproof. Between the different spacers and battpads they have for it, you can get it to just about any length you desire, but it won't be as readily adjustable as the set up I have. I have a folding six-position M4-style stock on mine, courtesy of ACE. Its polymer construction may or may not be quite as durable as the tubular aluminum of the Galil style, but it is still solid and as durable as anything I need short of running it over with a tank or using it to pound in railroad spikes, or something similarly retarded. The nice thing about it is that it allows me to quickly adjust length of pull to suit my needs. I can shoot it in my backyard without even a t-shirt on, then click it in a position or two to accommodate heavier clothing, pack straps, or a smaller statured shooter. And because it doesn't require the buffer assembly that the M4 does, it folds for easy transport. ACE's set up even allows you to choose which way it folds. I have mine set up to fold to the right because the optics mount on my Kobra interferes with it if I try to fold it to the left.

I might sell my NATO K-VAR. At first I thought it was fine, but tried it at the range today and discovered it's a little on the long side for me.

I'm just the opposite, the saiga stocks feel a little long to me, while a standard ak feels great. Guess there can't be a one size fits all! (unless you count collapsibles)

I'm also 6'5", but don't have a problem shooting fixed stock or most folding stock AKs. The exception being the Polish Tantals, which are even shorter than a normal WP stock. But, if it does bother you, there are a lot of pretty easy fixes as long as you're not using an underfolder.

For CQB short is your friend! Although 6'5" is pushing the envelope for a warsaw pack stock. Rember the big operators are running the M-4 fully collapsed in CQB (indoors and such) with armor.

To be honest, I have the longer stock from Ultimak on my MAK90 and it didn't make that much difference. At 6'3" the rifle just feels too short for me. I've had the thing since before the AW ban and never shot it much, so I changed to a longer stock and tossed out the bush-hole stock thinking it might help. It didn't really make a difference, it just looks 'tacticool' now.
