In Myrtle Beach, SC. A new bar just opened and they are offering discounts on alcoholic drinks to customers carrying a firearm!!!! Even advertising this on TV, offering a discount in a bar? Have we gone that nuts!? Needless to say I wont be getting within 5 miles of this place! The requirement by the bar to get the discount on your drinks, is that the pistol must be legally owned and be in a regular holster worn outside the pants on your belt. Its beyond me !!!!!!! The owner states in the TV ad he wants to see everyone armed!! ALCOHOL AND GUNS EQUAL DISASTER!!!
I may be older and old fashioned, if thats the case, I am GLAD! I have never seen anything this stupid anywhere in the country.

Unless they changed the law open carry is illegal in SC. I volunteer with a group that searches for missing people. Virtually all of them are presumed dead so we are looking for remains. Most of us carry where legal. Many of the places where we search can be a bit sketchy. We were doing a search near Myrtle Beach the same week that SC recognized GA permits. There is always a local LE presence when we do these searches. Any clues we find requires an investigator to look at it.

All of the cops around our command post were quite concerned that we all kept our guns out of site. And this was in the woods. I can see a legal issue with him requiring open carry

Other than that I doubt if they have any problems. Lots of people in southern states carry where alcohol is served and there are very few issues.

I know someone with a CCW and he got into a bar fight. When they found that he had a pistol in the console of his truck and a CCW the judge locked him up with $60,000 bond. Alcohol and marijuana don't mix with firearms. Choices have to be made.

This seems like a bad move that is meant to “own the libs” rather than serve a purpose. If he owned a diner or clothing store instead of a bar it might make more sense.

Most states in the south at least allow carrying in places where alcohol is served but usually include that you aren’t drinking. So carrying in a tavern is fine if you order a burger and a soft drink (ice tea, co-coler, docter pepper, aruh-cee coler, or Pepsi if you’re in North Carolina I guess) and you’re fine. Texas does the 51% rule on bar vs restaurant that serves alcohol also.

South Carolina as always been the most restrictive state in the south too. When I lived in Georgia there was no ccw reciprocity either. Granted Georgia‘s requirements had no training component at all.

I have been carrying concealed long enough that I can go about anywhere without anyone knowing that I am carrying. There may be worse ideas than carrying into a bar and having a few drinks but it would take me a while to figure what they were.

There very well could be idiot(s) in the bar that would do something you could never imagine in your wildest dreams. Goodness sake there are plenty of them.

“With great power comes great responsibility.”

But often, riiights are used to trump the latter.

They’re looking for suckers and idiots. The owner is probably an anti gunner. Sounds like a big pile of BS to me.

That occurred to me, too, but I couldn't figure how it might work to the antis' advantage.

Was there was some kind of liberalization of the carry laws? Maybe he derived less than 50% (or whatever) of his income from alcohol? If I recall corectly, that was a parameter for the definition of a bar for carry purposes in some places.

On the other hand, I am reminded that a bank in Boulder Colorado grew to large proportions partly because they offered a Weatherby rifle if you opened a $5000 (IIRC) one year CD.

But that was the 1970s when America was America and $5000 was $5000. (Probably around $200,000 today.)

And a gun was just a gun and not a "GUH--UHNNN! EEK! OMG! ARE YOU GOING TO SHOOT ME?"

So I wonder what his angle is, if any. Could it be... simply... to gather more business... or maybe it was just for advertising purposes and that was it.

This stunt is not allowed in Texas. No firearms allowed in a true what they call 51% establishment. 51% or more of their sales is alcohol...

You know there's a difference between having a drink and being drunk right?

It wouldn't seem like a good idea but if the person is sober enough to drive, they are sober enough to carry.

Yup.
A person processes approximately 1 alcohol drink an hour.
Not all drinks are equal, Budweiser 5% (we ain't drinking Bud), Yuengling 4.5%, Keystone/Miller Light 4%
In this example someone goes out for lunch and orders a Miller light, after they drink it they order 1 more; they are not in a hurry so lunch lasts 1+ hour.
In that example the 1st beer is processed and they have only one Light beer in their system so BAC would be about .02 - legal unless the % is zero.
This ^ is one way to look at it.

Alternatively we have the guns and ANY alcohol are bad mkay view.
Our gun carrier is carrying at home, despite living in a "good area" where he deems it completely unnecessary, yet does it anyway.
Its "Miller Time" and going to have a light beer with dinner.
Not yet he aint; Gotta lock up that gun before touching a light beer cause guns and alcohol are bad mkay.
Gun is now locked up and its "Miller Time" .... wait a minute...
If we can't trust ourself with a firearm, how about other potential hazards...
No getting on a ladder, no not even a small one.
Stairs - Forget it
Kitchen knives - Heck no
Grilling? Open flame after a light beer? You gotta be kidding.
Dremel Tool? LOL arguably the most dangerous item so far in terms of destructive potential.
Internet? You don't trust yourself with a gun but you think that you are good to go with a credit card? 😆

In before muh CCW insurance won't cover me if I have a beer, that is crappy coverage IMO bro.

Arkansas's enhanced CC license does allow you to go into bars with your concealed gun, and you can drink, but not "drink alcohol to the point of impairment" while in possession of your firearm. That really surprised me when I took the course. Seems a foolish risk.

We have always had open carry and concealed for quite a few years in this state but you can't do either in a place that makes the majority of it's income from liquor sales. Adults can even carry one onto school property as long as it is unloaded.
