teombe,

From the Speer load book:

230Gr TMJ (.451" Dia.)
COL 1.26
Start Load - 5.6 gr W231
MV- 789fps

Max Load

6.2 gr W231

MV - 858

Weapon tested -Sig P220

So you say Speer Loads are hot?

Have you tested their published data against Chrono?

Thanks

I've gotten great results with 4.5-5.0 grains of Bullseye behind a 230 Berry's plated FMJ and an OAL of 1.260". Bullseye is a good powder.

The manuals can be confusing and frustrating. I've got 5 of the major manuals and they often seem to say different things at times. It is important that you consult several, start conservative and work your way up.

Have fun.

I don't have a chrono yet - but I've been loading with their bullets (specifically 200gr TMJ SWC) and using their recipes for .45, and I found that the Bullseye charges listed as minimums gave healthier recoil than the factory loaded Lawman ammo I was also shooting. I would have expected different from a min loading.

I shot 10 test rounds using the above minimum load using W231. IMmediately after, I fired 50 rds of Fed Amer Eagle. I couldn't tell any difference in recoil between the two.

I have shot an awful lot of 200 LSWC rounds in bullseye pistol loaded with 4.0 grains of bullseye, and so have thousands of others. Its the accuracy load for .45 acp that all others are judged by.

Try 4.0 if you are just punching paper.:)

I order bullets from Penn Bullet co, 2200 200LSWC fit in a postal flat rate box and weigh 75lbs, so shipping is like $8. Depending on you mailman you may have to go to the post office to get them though.

I also use Diamond hard who is a local caster, lately I have been able to get them very inexpensively form a local gunshop. I paid $16 per 400, and last week bought 2000 230 gr. LRNs.

I no longer use bullseye powder, last year I switched to trailboss (IMR) becuase it gives me the accuracy of Bullseye, without the leading and the smoke. Its also softer shooting.

My current load is 5.0 grains for a 200LSWC, and 4.5 grains for a 230LRN.

I loaded my first batch with 4.9 grains of Bullseye and the above-mentioned Speer 230gr TMJ. They fired with noticeably less recoil than Federal American Eagle 230gr FMJ commercial ammunition.

My next batch has 5.1 grains. With these results I do not believe 5.2 grains will be a problem using these bullets.
