My name is Robert. I was born in Missoula, MT and spent the first 13 years of my life in a little (around 200 people) town called Paradise about 5 miles East of Plains on Hw 200. Moved to Troy, MT where I graduated high school. Parents still live there and I live with them when I work during the summer. I am currently enrolled in Montana State University as a Political Science major, though truth be told a slack alot and spend as much time with an Xbox controller and/or my good friend Jack (Daniels) as I do with my books. I learned to shoot at age 4 on my grandpa's property near the Clark Fork outside St. Regis, MT. I became politically involved in the issue of gun control around age 12, which was coincidentially around the time the Brady Bunch was campaigning for the Assault Weapons Ban in 1994. By age 13 I had memorized the Second Amendment and as my interest grew, I found myself learning more about my country's government and history. I was a member of the NRA at age 18 but I am a po college student and my membership has since expired  I'll rejoin as soon as I can find the funds.

My shortlist includes a Glock 20 , a varmint rifle, and a battle rifle clone--most likely a FAL. I currently have a M700BDL 7mm Rem Mag, Romanian AK clone, HK USP 45. Rem M870 Wingmaster, and a Ruger 10/22.

I go by the same handle on the Glocktalk forums and TheFiringLine and am also a member of the Outdoorsbest Forums at gunsandammomag.com as well as the reloadersnest. I look forward to learning alot and having some fun. I've heard alot of great things about this place.

Welcome!

p.s. New Guy brings the ammo, buys the beer, schleps the targets downrange, picks up the brass ..etc

I'm a man of wealth and taste...

Sorry, rock'n'roll moment there. Welcome to one of the best general gun forums on the web. I hope you'll enjoy the stay. Watch out though, or you'll be buying a LOT of beer.

Alright, alright you guys. Sounds like I am outvoted. Drinks all around. I'll schlep the targets, but you guys are picking up your own brass. I hate that. My dad is a brass Nazi. I hate shooting the Mini-14 just because I know we are going to be on our hands and knees looking for every last peice of brass. I bought a Romanian AK instead of a 5.56 just so I could shoot loads of steel cased Berden primed non-reloadable ammo specifically to avoid this.

I reload and I can understand being a stickler for some brass--like for hunting rifles and expensive stuff like wildcat or exotic cartridges--but sometimes I just want to plink and not worry where the brass is going. Maybe if you guys saw our range you would understand. It is really a 15 foot wide section of mowed folliage in a roughly straight 200 yard lined weaved between Doug-fir. If the brass doesn't fall in this 15 foot mowed section, it is in some thick, woody brush and will probably never be seen by man again.

Hmmmm...now I'll be wondering which of the students wondering around the campus here is MTMilitiaman.

Really? A fellow Bobcat? [singing] "It's a small world after all..."

Are you in the dorms? Do you eat at Harrison Food Swag? What is your major?

Welcome aboard. If you're buying I'll take Bushmills and .45 Gold Dot. :)

Try not to post if you've been hanging with your friend Jack too much. And if you do post whilst inebriated, please let me know so I can subscribe to the thread. :)

Welcome, MTMilitiaman! Make mine Killians and any old 10mm Auto that happens to be lying around.

This is the best firearms-related forum on the web. I learn something everytime I visit. You will, too.

Well then let me introduce my self too!

You guys can call me Kal. It's short for Kalashnikov, which is my user name for the "modern firearms forum". I'm 17 years old, and have never fired a gun. Sad aint it? :( However, do NOT doubt my knowledge on small arms, history about them, military doctrines on them, etc. You'd be surprised on how much I know. I hope to one day become a small arms designer/engineer. Damn I love guns! And if I ever do make a semi auto civilian version of a military small arm, BUY IT! Trust me, it'll be good. I'm thinking about a rifle with a lightweight barrel that can handle large amounts of ammo. You like? How about a disposible 50rd magazine? Yeah I know you will like that! Then Sarah Brady will crap her pants.

My dorm days are long since past (I did at one time live in both Langford and North Hedges). I'm currently on Staff. Shoot me an email sometime and we'll meet up.

Welcome, MTMilitiaman; You're lucky; I don't drink, but I'll take an extra helping of 7.62x54R to keep my Mosins happy. ;)

Gun God, you sound like me at 17! :uhoh: Sat in drafting class and designed SMG's utilizing common parts, (sten bbls, MAC-10 stocks, etc.) , a trap shotgun similar to the Ljutic Space Gun, but utilizing M16 parts, and built a .22 smoothbore "cannon" in a carriage, for metal shop. One major difference: I had fired a lot of rounds by 17, including full-auto.

Oh, and
You'd be surprised on how much I know.
:)

You'd be surprised by how much you don't know. I constantly am, and I have been gunsmithing off and on (including in the US Army) for 27 years. ;)

Good luck to you in the future, you may well be the next JMB or Mikhial T. Kalashnikov! :)

I'm surprised MontanaMilitiamam i'd thought you'd be here already.

Parallax, Kikey Kikowitz and a few others are here too. All the refugees of RKBA.

Anyway good to see you here.
