my reloads for 2002.
with unique powder, my info slip says 5.2 gr.
but IM thinking way less the way they acted. or some bad powder. will be pulling the bullets from them later

Wait I'm confused. So there was a misfire and the slug lodged in the barrel, then your next shot was lucky because it was unloaded.

What would have happened if you shot with a slub in the pipe? You wouldn't have been killed right? Maybe stitches on your hand...I've never considered this scenario - I just always keep it pointed downrange in case there's a slow burn (I forget what that's called) when my gun jams (before you bash glocks it only happens with certain crap ammo on my 26).

I've never had this happen and I guess I'm stupid because I would think putting another bullet down the barrel would clear it. How does this happen anyway?

I don't know from personal experience, but I suppose it is possible that there wouldn't have been a problem, and perhaps the follow up shot would have cleared the barrel. But it is also very possible that it would have turned the gun into a pipe bomb. Not something you want to be holding in your hands when it goes off.

Note that the same problem is possible if you get dirt or snow in the end of your barrel. Don't try to clear it out by firing a round through it.

Thanks JKimball.

I don't think it'd be pleasant but I don't think it would pipe bomb because one end of the system is still open. It'd still be a lot of force with only one outlet though and the barrel would probably banana peel or something.

Yeah, it is hard to say what would have happened. It might just bulge the barrel a little. But the point is it could have easily ruined a nice gun, and it could have easily caused injury to the shooter. Death would have been less likely, but when you get little bits of steel flying in random directions at high velocities at arms length from your heart, brain, and major arteries/veins, you never know. Like Chevelle said, in any of those events it would have been a bad day at the range.

Anything could have happen from nothing to the barrel splitting, cylinder blowing apart, gun broke in half.

May have not got a scratch or could have lost
a finger, an eye, or a hand.

Hard to say cause all has happen somewhere else before.

Think like this.
You have this pipe, it is plugged on one end, you strike another round off in this closed off space.

Something should have to give.

again i dont know what could have happen and im not planing to retry it.:D

I had one misfire and checked the gun after about 20 seconds. All my gun needs doing is there is a hole built into the top of the Action/slide where you can see the brass or copper round inside the chamber of the gun.

That little peek confirmed there was still a round in the gun and I re-aimed it down range, pulled the trigger slowly all the way back and BOOM fired properly. After some thinking, the misfire was operator error. It was the 6th shot ever and I was very new owner to the gun.

The only other snap I should hear is the slide locking open at the end of the mag.

A flash in the pan with flintlocks, you stop and stay right where it is aimed for one minute. Dont move that weapon off target. It's something like this. FLASH! (In eyes big light) SSSSHHHHPPPPT!!!

but no boom.

Can somebody explain exactly what happened? I read multiple times, but it sounds like he had a dud, followed by the accidentally empty slot?

First round was a squib. Usually primer only, no powder. Bullet goes down the barrel a little ways but stays in the barrel, doesn't exit. If you fire a good round into that bullet sitting in the barrel you'll either have an extremely sore hand or be picking gun shrapnel out of yourself for a while. Luckily the following round was a on an empty cylinder before he realized the first was a squib and he needs to check the barrel before shooting again.

Barrel was fine :), I tapped it back out with an aluminum rod I had in my range bag and saw no damage ,
i have used this rod a few times on other peoples squibs but never mine
(till now). :(
I have pulled the saved rounds and have found only 3.5gr of powder , should have been 5.3-5.6 unique 110jhp.

Guess my dyslexic came up as I tagged the box as having 5.3gr.:what:

GUESS MY SHARPNESS IS COMING TO A DULL FINISH :banghead:
