I had gone home for a few days to celebrate a good friends birthday with him. Last night we are sitting out on my Deck enjoying a smoke and talking gun's. We had gotten into a debate over the best military caliber ever made and so we had a few rifles out and were comparing and contrasting our collections. I had my shotgun out as well because it was new and my buddy had not seen it yet. Being that it is my primary home defense weapon, it was indeed loaded. The conversation drags on for a few hours and we get into the age old AR vs. AK argument. An argument, which Im sure many of you know can go on forever. Anyway its about midnight and Im ready to go inside and crash on the couch when we hear a loud banging on the front of the house. It sounds like someone is pounding on one of the glass windows with their fist. Off course this alerts both of us and we stand up and look around. I call into the house to my mom and ask if she hears it as well. She says that she does. My father and sister were not home at the time, so I tell my mom to take the cordless phone and her handgun into the master bedroom and lock the door.
At this point I didnt want to immediatley alert the police because I had not seen what was making the noise and didnt want to bring officers out to the house for a false alarm. So I grab my shotgun, my friend grabs his marlin and we proceed to move slowly around the side of the house. I have a surefire lighted forearm fitted to my 870 and as I bring the weapon around the corner of the house I see what appears to be a teenage male kicking the large glass window of my sisters bedroom. SO I immediatley put the light on him and yell very assertivley "Freeze, get you're ****ing hands up!!" My friend had come out from behind me and also had his weapon trained on the guy. The kid turned to face us looking like had seen a ghost. His face was pale white and he was screaming " Chill out man dont kill me,dont shoot!". Still haveing no idea who this guy is I tell him to **** and keep his hands where I can see them. I ask my buddy to go get my mom and bring her outside becuase maybe she can determine who this guy is. In the midst of this he pee's himself and begins to cry. My mom comes out the door takes one look at the kid and goes "O son of a bitch"...followed by the guys name. Apparently this jerkoff is a friend of my sisters. My sister is 16 and still in high school, from what I've been told this kid has a major thing for her and shes not into him as more than a friend. So he got himself pretty drunk, developed some beer muscles and walked over to the house I guess upset about being rejected. I suppose he didnt plan on a well armed big brother being home :). So my mom calls the kids parents while I try to calm him down and recover from the adrenaline rush myself. Quite honestly it was the most terrifying experience of my life. Knowing that I was about to be in an encounter where I might have to use my weapon to defend myself. Im glad it ended peacefully and I feel sorry for that kid, his parents were pissed when they got there! I would not have want to been in the back of that car on his ride home.

Sounds like you handled it quite well.
With a little luck, the kid will use the gray matter between his ears before his next birthday. Teenage years are tough enough.

Glad to hear his folks were PO'd. I guess parenting is not a lost art after all. They apparently care!

I am glad to hear that the parents weren't defensive of their son claiming something along the lines of: 'How dare you pull a gun on my good boy"...!

All too often, things like that happen.

Sounds like you and your friend kept your cool. I hope the kid learned a lesson from this. He is probably a good kid that needs to grow up a bit.

Knowing that I was about to be in an encounter where I might have to use my weapon to defend myself.
From... an apparently unarmed drunk? Two against one?

What are the laws regarding the use of lethal force in your state?

From... an apparently unarmed drunk? Two against one?

Google "castle doctrine". Anyone breaking into your occupied house can be assumed to have lethal intent. And OP didn't know *** was going on, could have been a 300lb biker instead of a 125lb kid. OP used judgement and didn't shoot him. Best outcome possible.

WayneConrad, what I was reffering to was the moments leading up to the encounter. I had no idea who the guy was or what he was doing. For all I knew he very well could have had a weapon. I certainly would never want to use force unless I absolutley had to. Neither the fact that he was unarmed nor that he was drunk was apparent to me at the time.

I find it rather humerous that he peed himself. I wonder if he will bother your sister much now.

RancidSumo...

If I don't get that brew, I might just do something serious and drastic like sitting on my scoot in front of your house and...lower your property value.

Neither one of us want that.

You better come up wid 'at vig.

Biker:D

Too bad the formatted post was later, I read through the whole original one before I saw it.

Anyway, nice work, a better outcome could not be had:
Kid (hopefully) learned not to be sneaking around at night.
And you got to test your preparation for a situation like this.

[drool]mmmmmmm...Fat Tire[/drool]

Glad to read all worked out and that he peed his pants. A good scare sure smartened me up when I was that age.

Why not call the cops on him? If he's the type of teen to get drunk and start kicking in girls' windows... he should get a record, IMO.

...he got himself pretty drunk, developed some beer muscles...

I'd never heard that one before...love it!

As for re-formatting other's posts...I agree it made it more readable, but I didn't have any serious problem reading the original. It seems kind of rude somehow. Believe me - there are hundreds of posts that I had to bite my fingers (sort of like biting one's tongue) to resist doing the same thing. At least this one had capital letters at the beginning of sentences, and periods at the end. I wonder what the OP thinks about getting his post reformatted?

I think he learned his lesson!

Ditto the suggestion that you file a report on the encounter. Otherwise he (or his parents) may beat you to it and put their spin on it.
