Hey guys,

My Glock 19 was given to me by my grandfather. He bought it back in '95 and had a Lasermax guide rod installed. Recently, the battery cap of the guide rod broke, and it has rendered the pistol impossible to field strip the easy way (uncocked, slide lock down). Does anyone know of another way to disassemble this gun?

When I try the normal method the slide gets stuck after it moves forward about a 1/2"..... This is frustrating...

I think you'll have to try to jigger with the guide rod as best you can while pulling the slide forward.

You might be able to remove the striker cover and take those parts out from the rear, but the guide rod would probably still give you a hard time.

Maybe a dental pick to try and get the slide release spring depressed enough to remove the slide release from the gun?

Can you get some pliers on the guide rod, to hold it compressed to give you some room to wiggle with?

The slide release isn't holding anything in, I actually think the recoil spring is caught on something. I will try using pliers to compress the recoil spring a little and see if it works anything loose.

If you can move the slide rearward just enough to clear the frame, remove the slide cover plate (at the read of the slide) then remove the firing pin assembly and the extractor plunger and spring. Depress the slide lock as usual (may not be necessary) and slide the slide forward. You'll likely have to depress the extractor plunger through the small cover plate cutout with a small drift.

If it's still hung up best to have a Glock armorer take a look at it.

If you can lock the slide open?

Lock the slide open.
Mag out.
Point it at the couch or something soft.
Hold the take-down catch down with your left hand.
Push the slide release with your right hand.

It might come off all by itself.

If that don't work, get it off as far as it will go.

Then whack the rear of the slide with a rubber mallet.

There ain't no other way I know of.

I finally got the slide off and the lasermax out. For now I am just using a standard Glock guide rod, but I am guessing it will work better than the lasermax.

I am probably going to buy a battery cap for the lasermax and then try to sell it and make a little money off of it.....

SO, how did you get the slide off then??

Inquiring minds want to know, so we can help the next guy with the same problem.

I actually removed the striker, extractor and other extras from the rear when I had the slide locked back and then dropped the slide hoping that there would be less resistance holding it on. It still got stuck, but it made it a little further. After that a gave it a few taps with a rubber mallet, and then a little tug finally got it off.

There was a piece of the battery cap missing, and I'm sure it was what was getting stuck somewhere. However, I will never know where that was

Thanks for all of the help y'all!

(and to keep this from happening to the next guy.....tell him not to buy a lasermax guide rod :neener:)
But seriously, if anyone else has this problem, just hit the back of the slide with a rubber mallet...that's all that can be done to get it off.
