I am failing to understand this situation, and the only thing I can figure is maybe i'm unknowningly limp wristing in a horrible way.

Picked up a NIB SA XD-9, took it to the range today. Winchester white box, 115 gr wal-mart value packs.

3-7 yards, hits point of aim in a nice tight group.

~15 yards, it hits high by several inches. Another at the range didnt seem to have any difficulties.

Other useless info: i'm a leftie, 6'2 and 280 lbs. Also shot my sig 220 in 45acp today, and it was hitting point of aim at 15 yards for as long as I had ammo.

anyone else having similiar problems, or have suggestions? I was quite happy with the accuracy at short range, and if i can just resolve this point of aim issue...

If the loads are really slow there will be more mussel rise before the bullet exits, resulting in a higher group.

If your sights are adjustable, resight the gun. If not, use hotter ammo.

Or it could be something entirely different.

Try some dry-firing. If you can, always, maintain your sight picture and call your shots as the trigger breaks, you can eliminate yourself as a cause of error. If not, more practice might be in order.

It took a little "get acquainted" time, but the XD 9 & 357 I have rented has performed well at all distances. There was a slight learning curve especially after moving the target out to about 30' or so.

The only way you will know if it is you or the gun is if you sit down and shoot it from a rest.

FWIW, using 165gr Winchester white box and PMC 155 in my XD40 lands my shots high is I aim ON what I want to hit. At 15 yards, about 2-3 inches high. I read somewhere that the XD's stock sights are set for a 6 o'clock hold at 25m, I suppose it makes sense that this would affect all ranges to some degree...

definitely try it from a bench

Also, start with the target close. Then move it gradually away. don't double your distance each time. ie try 7,9,11,13,15 and see if there is some sort of pattern developing.

Another thing, are you shooting parallel to the earth or down at a target on the ground. You see your body position will be different the further away your target gets. If you shoot at a target at gun level then your body is the same when shooting at 7, 14, 21, 50 etc.

It may be your stance changes, have someone watch you very closely and see if you hold different at different ranges. Small details can go a long way.

good shooting -bevr

edited to change perp to parallel

Teufelhunden,
You are correct. According to Springfield the XD is designed to use the 6 o'clock sight picture at 25yds.

BTW is anyone else's Operation and safety Manual stapled together wrong?
