Am I just crazy or is everyone broke

I'm neither broke nor rich but I've got an excellent system for firearm purchases:

Every 3 to 6 months I decide I can easily get a new gun by just selling a Contender carbine barrel with stock and a .22 conversion kit for a Mini-14.
First I get the new gun. Then I procrastinate selling anything until it's time to get another gun.

Somehow it works.:D

I've been trying to pay off debt in these uncertain economic times. I figure I have enough guns, buying more and not paying off debt (mortage, credit, etc) is just stupid when the economy, electricity, sky scrappers, or my roof could take a terd at any time...without warning.

I can only begin to empathize with the great depression generation. I guess all those "old guys" who tried to give me sage, conservative financial advice were right all along.

When will I learn to listen?

ehenz,
apparently appeals to glutany:confused:

Not broke, just seems the amount to be paid for handguns now is way outa line with what you actually get.

Don't really care if it's dealers and/or manufacturers trying to make too much per gun or just lawyers driving up prices for everybody. Bottom line is a consumer looks at something they want, try to determine whether it's worth it's price and chips fall where the may.

Looking at the quality/price equation, add in the general hassal of buying a handgun and it's just that nothings appealing much to me at the moment. I think there are more like me around than you would think.

Everything said so far is true. But boy, if you're NOT broke this is the best time to buy guns I've ever seen in my life! It is truly a buyer's market. If ever you've wanted a premium gun, jump now. While you will save some on everything, the buys on the Les Baers, Wilsons, STIs, and even the occasional Ed Browns are amazing!

I live in Florida, the land of fantastic weather, high cost of living and the low wage. Yep, near broke, thank God for the military pension or I'd be living in the Old Sailors home in New Orleans, really broke.

I bought a GP100 last month...I was about to lay some cash down for an M1A.
Then I found out my job may not be secure. A building exploded and the Air Force wasn't that happy with us anyway.
So...I'm tightening the belt. I've got 10 months on this lease and car payments.

slow economy, everyone broke - indeed.

my fav gunstore is considering closing down for a while, a long while i suspect, for lack of traffic. ppl are not even coming in to look.

my fav hockshop is the same way. stuff all over that ppl have lost in pawn. he is stuck as there are no retreivers or buyers.

for a couple of centuries here in America, when the common man gets ahead, there is a recession/depression, or another gasoline shortage which drives up the price of everything else.

all the politicians have a plan to restore the economy. to what: 1929??

ok, sorry guys, rant off.

or another gasoline shortage which drives up the price of everything else.

Show me a booming economy in America with high gas prices and I'll show you Phil Donohue with Ted Nugent on safari. If only someone would have informed king George the first or second of this little fact our lives would be much easier

Yeah, broke here too. I'm waiting to here about a new position I applied for, and if I get it I'll be in the market to get a new gun in few months (without having to sell one to get it!).

Thank you to everyone for his or her opinions, except for RepublicanMan (jk). :p

I still do not think it was over the top for the price. My logic was that for $250 a savvy gun shopper could maybe get a brand new 22a, or buy mine with 2 barrels. I put closer to $300 in it when I bought it used and I still think it was a fair price for a solid 22 plinker with the S&W name and two barrels.

I guess that times are tight for everybody and the fact that the 22a is not a Ruger or Browning would contribute to the lack of a buyer. I still don’t have to like it. :D

Thanks,

I just bought her "the ring".

Of course I'm broke!!!!!!!!!!!

I could have bought a MP5 for that cash!!!!!!!!!!!

However, on the "bright side" side. Uncle Sam is going to give me a raise in the form of hazard pay. Just keeps getting better:rolleyes:

yayarx7,

Maybe you should sell a Ruger or a Browning and just enjoy shooting the Smith.... :D

Yep, I'm broke. Got in a car accident the other day (My first one! :fire: ) and while it didn't do a damned thing to my good 'ole 69 Chevy pickup, It caused about a thousand dollars damage to his new plasticmobile. So you never know, that may get ugly.

But if I could just get a couple little things, like a month's supply of ammo and a fancy holster, I'd be happy for a good while.

Wes

P.S. The wreck was his fault :cuss: , but the cop didn't write him a ticket for failure to signal. :banghead:

Wes,

In many juridictions these days, the LEOs aren't allowed to ticket unless they saw it happen... which makes some sense... :D

I was broke for the last 6 years..... Now I'm divorced and just bought my first new gun since I met my ex.

Wes, he may still get that ticket in the mail. It's been known to happen.

Wes,
Sorry for this...but better a fair warning than a shocker.....
The 1000$ damage on the plastic mobile can easily turn into 3500$ in damage once the car is closely looked at........be careful.

Shoot well

Broke? No, I do pretty well for a 22yo HS dropout with a GED. Hell, I do pretty well for a 22yo, period. My other hobby (hot rodding) tends to get in the way of guns I want. The "gun or car parts choice" is one have have to make pretty often. While car parts normally win, I've still manged to buy 5 quality pistols since July '02. Ironicly, I've only bought four 6 packs of Corona, so at least I'm not drinking my money away.

Oh, Wes, even though there wasn't a ticket wrote, theres still an accident report.

It seems to me when I looked those over a couple years back that retail was like $155----meaning I'd give you $100 for it ----maybe.

Extras get you nothing----if I trade a gun---the dealer gets no extra mags--grips--stocks---or the scope that was on a rifle---scope mounts etc.......because I won't get anything for them----save that stuff for when another one comes around.

I have all kinds of hi-cap mags---grips----scope bases for guns I don't even own---because sooner or later I'll have another one---or one of my buddy's will-----no---they're not for sale.

The S&W .22 autos had a pretty poor reputation over at the old TFL IIRC.

Well, since he was at fault, he was only going to involve his insurance if possible. But yes, you're right, things like this have a funny way of going south.

Ah well, live and learn.

Wes

Hard Times?

Over the years I have bought some of the nicest items in my collection during recessions. Lots of nice things would show up at shops and shows at reasonable prices.

This recession seems different...at least around here (Dallas area.) The good stuff is not coming up for sale... for that reason I infer the recession isn't as bad as some in the past.

FWIW
