Ok heres the story...

I hit hard times and yada yada yada, decided to sell some firearms :(

I put my S&W 22a target pistol with both 4 and 6 inch barrels up for consignment at the local dealer. It is in good used shape, so I put a price of $250 on it. I have both mags and the original blue box, even the orange chamber thingy. That was the least I could stand to get for her. So 6 months later I picked her back up.

So was I really asking too much? Is this just a fluke. I just wanted some more opinions on the matter.

Thanks,
Scott

All depends on where you're at & how the economy is over there. I'm not broke but I'm buying a stapher's rifle this week. Just gotta find the buyer for your gun.

The 22As and 22Ss just don't seem to move on the used market... Browning Buck Marks and Rugers, both MkIIs and 22/45s sell much better... at least in the shops I'm familiar with.

Did you have yours at The Bullet Trap?

Alot of people are broke now it seems. I'm broke. Hard times all around. :D

And my credit card won't allow me to buy those 3 .... blah blah blah I could go on for hours I'll just stop right there :D

I think people want you to give them the gun and a free box of shells.
Last Dec, my CZ 75BD was stollen from the trunk of my car so I bought another one just like it. A month later, my neighbors 17 y.o. kid and his stoner pal tried to rob a 7-11 type store with my CZ. After endless paperwork and run-around, I got my CZ back. I took the newer one and 2 mags and box and paperwork to my local gunshop. New CZ-75BD's are selling for $400+. I asked $325 + the shops consignment fee for a total of $345. This pistol has had 10 rounds thru it. It's still in the display case.

There are a disturbing number of bucks-up 1911's and older S&W's for sale in the Buy, Sell, Trade: Handguns section right now.

Folks usually don't come off those unless funds are tight. :uhoh:

Let's see now: Cut in Salary, no overtime, local sales tax just went up, wife got canned, homeowners insurance went up, cars are about to fall apart, three kids who want everything under the sun....yeah I think I'm broke. But I do have my eye on that new Sig!:p

Larry,

That's a used gun for fifty bucks off. Or actually, the same price as a new gun if one shops around at gunsamerica or whatever.
It doesn't matter that you only shot ten rounds through it. Every used gun only has a few rounds through it - according to the seller.

Once you drive that gun off the showroom floor, the market value drops by at least a third. Every buyer asks himself how many rounds have REALLY been fired through it. And they wonder id something is wrong with the gun since it's being sold. And they wonder if saving $50 is worth it when they consider that if there is a problem, as second owner there may be no warranty on the gun.

LOL

I'm broke.

Wife was not able to get a teaching position this year, and we just bought a house.

No more gun purchases for me, for a while.

:( :(

I've looked at the Smith & Wesson 22 a couple times, and it never impressed me as anything but a second-best plinker, probably not as good a gun as the Browning Buck Mark or Ruger Mark II. I might pay $150 for one, but only if it were in tip-top shape.

Once sold a 4 inch 22A with just 600 rounds through it for $70 if that's any help.

Trust me, there was a good reason I HAD to let it go, but even so

Two most common mistakes gun sellers make.

1. It's in new condition so I can get new price. I've even had seen one guy try to include what he originally spent on sales tax in the resale price of one of his used guns.

2. It's got "EXTRAS" so it's worth more than it would be otherwise. Extras don't add to the value unless you find that special someone who wants the extras as badly as you did when you bought them.

JohnKSa is right on.. I see this often. Private sellers as well as dealers think that "just like new" commands the same price as if it were brand new. Doesn't matter if 10 rounds were fired or 1000. It's still used. :banghead: Then people list them as "custom" simply because of aftermarket grips.
As far as the S&W 22 first mentioned, I believe that to be a bit high myself but, I'm going by what I can buy them for and going prices in my area. each location is different. Also, on the the used market, the Rugers and Buckmarks are commanding those same prices and buyers will likely purchases them .
