Am I Ready to Move Beyond 7 Yards

When I started shooting a handgun (1911A1-45ACP) the target distances were 25&50Yds. As this is written a (S&W Shield- 9X19mm) the target distances are 10-7&3Yds.

Try shooting faster and see what happens. I make a great group at 10 yards slow fire, plenty of learning left when I try to clear 17 rounds in 10 seconds.

P365 - 48 Rounds at roughly 1.0 Second Pace at 7 yards with 3 Mag Changes.

Flush Mag - 11 Rounds
Extended - 10 Rounds
+2 Extended - 12 Rounds
+5 Extended - 15 Rounds

PS I tend to pull low left when I hurry too.

Am I ready to move to 15 yards?

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but literally every pistol shooter needs to practice beyond 7 yards. There is only so much that a shooter can accomplish at seven yards. It's the basics of grip, draw stroke, sight picture, trigger control, etc. There is a whole world of training exercises that a person should try, even if they are not an accomplished shooter, other than short distance slow fire.

To stay at short distance slow fire is ill preparation for any CCW holder. It sets the bar too low.

Training could include adding in a draw, time pressure, tactical reloads, strong and weak one handed shooting, shooting from standard positions of standing or kneeling, shooting from odd positions - laying on your side, on your back, around corners, moving and shooting, shooting at elevated heartbeat, etc.

For instance, even if the OP would slowfire at 25yards, it would be known how far left the group is centered at that distance (which could be 4" or more). A sight pusher could be bought or borrowed to center the sights at that distance. Additionally, the shooter's sight picture may have to be adjusted for elevation at 25yds. (Especially on S&W's with their low .160" above the slide front sight). The same Shield that is centered at 7yds could be 6-8" low at 25yds. The shooter doesn't know unless they test these things out.

I really need to work more on drills that teach specific skills.
Here are a few ideas to liven things up:
