LCP Accuracy

Someone posted about LCP Accuracy a while back and I said I didn't have any problem at hitting stuff inside 10 yards but I hadn't really shot for groups. Today I gave it a shot. First shots cold at the range.

This is Ruger LCP Gen 2 (Not LCP II). It does have a heavy DA style trigger pull and the sights are small (compared to the Pro or LCP II) but both the trigger and sights are usable.

No I'm not pulling the shots low left. The next group of 7 went into the same size group about the same distance high right (with the exception of one called flyer another 1" high right). I am not getting a consistent grip because of the small grip size and my 8" large palm hands. I guess I need to resort to a grip sleeve. It was never really apparent at higher speeds on the Silhouette.

At 7-15 yards I find that I can get pretty accurate hits with it. I think the trigger is one of the more underrated aspects of the gun. I like it better than the LCP II trigger, and the only thing negative I'd say about it is I don't like the false reset.

I often wonder how many people that had issues with the trigger had spent much time with DA Revolvers.

I was actually surprised as usually my mode of shooting it is as many shots as possible in 6" as fast as possible. Generally in that regard it's a 10 yard gun. Really have to slow down to make quality hits at 15 yards.

The chamber end of the barrel on my LCP has a significant amount of play side to side. It tightens up with a cartridge in the chamber, but exactly how much is going to depend on the specific dimensions on the pieces of brass. I always assumed this looseness was the real reason the gun can't print more than a passable group.

Ill take that 7' group with an LCP any day of the week.

My son picks up my LCP, hit a 11" wide, 16" tall steel target we we're shooting at 80 yards away with a rifle... twice!

I feel mine shoots pretty good too, or I wouldn't carry it every day.

I've owned two Gen 2 LCP's. One was manufactured in 2010 and the best I could do was minute of 8.5x11 at 7 yards. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but not by much. My newer one came from 2019, and I can actually get pretty good groups with it. My gun club has an assortment of steel targets set up at 15 yards and I can hit them more often than not with the new LCP.

try not to stop recoil as much as try to keep a firm grip on the gun before/during/after the shot.

Good shooting with that gun at 7 yards.

On my sub compact carry pieces I do not add grip extensions. If I wanted a gun with a longer grip I would have gotten that in the first place. But I got pocket guns because I wanted a pocket piece, meaning small size. I know that these are harder to shoot well. I also know that practice improves on that.

Saying that I have one extension grip for my Shield. I practice with both. When i carry the standard mags are in place.

But folks have differing opinions and experiences.

Good shooting. I don’t shoot mine for groups but I can usually hit the plates at 18 yards. This is a gen 1 with the very minimal sights.
