am I the only one that just loves the 22 magnum and 17hmr?

I don't own a .17 but I do have a .22 mag. I like it alot so far, I haven't used it on varmints yet? not sure. But I have used it on soda cans and was impressed with it's accuracy.

My critter problem grew a little bigger then i'd like to use a .22lr for. I understand .17 is very accurate at distance but I lean toward the heavier bullet for critter gettin on animals bobcat-coyote size.

BCD - as one of the other posters noted, Ruger pulled the 10/22 Mags from the market about 10 years ago for, what I was told, "mechanical problems".
I had been looking for several years for one to go with my 10/22 LR and my Ruger Convertible revolver when I learned this so I ended up with a Marlin bolt .22 Mag. As for something like groundhogs, the 10/22 LR or my other .22 LR bolt do the jog quite well. I save the .22 Mag for larger things like coyotes.

I would like a bolt action .22 Magnum but two things held me back. One was the cost of the ammo and the other was the noise. I can shoot .22 LR comfortably wiithout ear protection but not the magnum. If I have to wear ear protection anyway I might as well have a .22 Hornet that I can reload about as cheaply as I can buy .22 Magnums.

I love my .17 it's great for vaporizing vermin literally. What else can turn a pesky crow into a poof of feathers at 150yrds. Not to mention it's DN accurate. I also like the .22 mag for bigger critters (yotes and bobcats) or where minimal pelt damage is wanted.

used to

I bought a CZ 452 American 17 hmr in 2003 and loved it. shot it all the time. it still is the most accurate box-stock rifle (centerfire or rimfire) I ever owned. then by 2008 when the price of ammo was $13.50 a box I discoverd the 19 Badger. Better and reloadable!
I had a S&W airlite pd 351, or some such model. It was a lightweight small 22 mag revolver. That sucker spit lead out of every chamber. I got rid of it after 50 rounds fired.
I then got a smoking hot deal on a 22 Automag. Great pistol but I could not find spare mags and it was LOUD and not to accurate.
the 17 hmr and 22 mag fads fazed in and out of my life........I spend hours shooting 22lr these days.

I have three .22WMR rifles -
Marlin 25MN - a very tight shooter!
Revelation - store brand Mossberg 640KD Chuckster - beautiful rifle, stiff trigger, so-so shooter - just haven't found it's favorite load yet.
Ithaca Model 49 singleshot lever rifle. So-so shooter, with modified Martini action.

My only .17HMR is the early Marlin 17V. Laser accurate.

My .22WMR handgun is the old Tanfoglio TA76 single-action western-style revolver - the Heritage Roughrider's grandad. Decent shooter, still tight and reliable with it's 60's zamac action.

I tend to shoot my .22 Hornet rifle - the BRNO ZBK-110 singleshot - a lot more, as I enjoy reloading the wee caliber. But all are good varmint stoppers.

I don't have any .22WMR's at the moment - that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to have one. I do have two .17HMR's that I shoot pretty regularly tho. I think the .17HMR fills the niche between .22lr & centerfire just fine.
The Savage I bought approx. 4 yrs. ago - it was so popular w/ friends & relatives that I had to "share", I hate that. So I purchased the CZ452 Varmint for myself.

I have a Winchester 9422M and love it. I haven't shot it that much as I also have a W 9422lr I love even more.

17 hmr

I have a Marlin bull barrel 17 HMR that I take to the range regular and shoot targets at 100, 200, 250 yards and using the mil-dot scope it is deadly accurate!! I love it and would not sell or trade for anything, within reason that is!! I told a friend about shooting beer cans full of water at 250 yards and he all but called me a liar, until I showed him!! Now he is searching for one of his own!!
