A recent conversation with a coworker got me wondering this.

Why am I so adamant about the 2nd amendment? Why do I carry guns? Why do I NEED so many (I have 3, to him that's an arsenal). I guess I can best explain it to him like this: There is not one constitutional amendment that receives as much flak or is under such scrutiny as the 2nd. There are no groups politicing for the dismissal of the 1st amendment to run your mouth about how stupid our president is, or how you think Christians are all idiots. There are no legislations on the books to allow the Government or police to be able to stop, search, and seize your property all willy-nilly, and there certainly aren't any laws prohibiting what church you want to follow. There simply isn't any amendment that is as misunderstood and disliked by so many as the 2nd amendment.

Why is this? I want to know also why the idiots in DC think they should be able to vote on something like this. I feel that if people have the ability to vote on whether or not you and I can exercise our INHERENT right to self defence, my second amendment right is being trumped. If each city/state can vote to ban guns, doesn't that negate the constitution? By my elected officials telling me what's best for me, is that not the opposite of freedom? Shouldn't we be voting on more important issues like immigration, health care, and foreign policy?

To me, those issues are not constitutionally secured and need to be decided upon. We already have 10+ rights in the BOR, so there's nothing that needs any voting. Much smarter people than we are now decided upon them some 200+ years ago, so why is there any confusion as to what they mean and their place in our country?

With these ideas, I think I'm the opposite of the Brady minded blissninny. Instead of dreaming of a gun-free country I pine for a country that embraces them as the tools needed for securing the other rights we have. Our right to self defense, and to challenge and defeat those individuals who would try to deprive us of the rest of our rights as Americans. I can go to any state in this country and picket an abortion clinic, or I can demonstrate at a University about something equally dumb like FUR IS MURDER or THINK OF THE CHILDREN. However I can't bring my LEGALLY and LICENSED firearm into some states because some politicians don't like them.

I guess my question is, why are we picking and choosing which of our rights we will support and uphold? If you dismiss one shouldn't you dismiss them all? It's one in the same, isn't it? Alternatively just tell me I'm retarded and I'll call it a day :)

The ONLY way that any gun law can be constitutional is for the people to add a new amendment.

Anything else is BS and in violation of our rights. However, the only way to enforce these rights in this country at this time appears to be by the same methods we used on the issue of taxation without representation back in King George's day.
