My buddy shoots only Winchester WinClean ammo out of his new pistols and swears by this stuff (tells me he barely has to clean them ever after a couple hundred rounds!). I haven't had a chance to see it in action until today.

While I haven't shot enough of it to form an opinion about accuracy of the ammo, I can confirm first-hand, this stuff is amazingly clean! I picked up his brass and it's almost shiny clean inside - I could not believe my eyes.

I was wondering if anyone knew if Winchester was selling (or planning to sell) the powder and primers that go into these amazing rounds?

Thanks,

JP

I'm pretty sure Winclean refers to lead dust, not grime. But, hey, if the ammo is clean, super. It takes me the same amount of time to clean a gun no matter how dirty it is, so clean ammo wouldn't sell me.

I agree I believe it is the primer - I pulled bullets from a winclean and fired the primed case - very little fouling vs the black soot from a regular primed case - I have seen non toxic primers in the past at higher cost that purported to be cleaner but have not seen them lately and did not try them.

The owner of my local Gun Shop has a Glock that 10,000 rds thru it !! has
never cleaned it...(I just can't do that to a weapon I going to carry ! )Winclean is good stuff ..its going to be great for Full Auto !! Echo ..out

Not sure about the primer, but a Hodgdon powders (I got to them by calling Winchester components department) ventured a guess that they are using TightGroup... Haven't tried it yet though

I have used Tightgroup in a .45. Not sure I would call it "clean". It leaves a fine residue which when mixed with the oils in my gun turns into grease. And the brass is definitely not "almost shiny clean inside". I switched to Clays which is much cleaner, at least for my loads.

I use Titegroup in 9mm... it's much cleaner than WWB, Fed Am. Eagle, S&B, and other cheap ammo, but it's not CLEAN.
