I bought a Colt 1911 WW I reissue which I don't plan on shooting much. For its first outing I wanted to use the cleanest ammo so I picked Winchester Winclean. I've used this in my .38 snubnose and its really clean stuff.

After only one box of the .45ACP version of Winclean the entire interior of the pistol was covered with particles that resembled coarse sand. It took me over an hour to get it all off.

Can anyone tell me what happened?

the winclean ammo has lead free primers and no exposed lead for the bullet and was originally made for indoor ranges. it didn't have anything to do with how clean the powder burns
