my thoughts?
I'll start with the story of 38 Special/357 mag
I have 4 38s and a dozen 357s to feed of those several are carry guns in my regular rotation. I have 5 different carry loads due to some of these guns preferences. My Detective Special shoots high with heavy bullets so it gets 110 std pressure silvertips I have about a box and a half on hand. I also have a practice load that mimics it of 110 remington SJHPs I have 200 of these loaded up. I have a few guns that prefer the 135 SBGD load I have ~500 on hand and I have 1000 rounds of practice ammo loaded I am set up similar with 158 gr +p LSWCHPs(~100 factory plus ~1000 practice) and 125gr Golden sabers(~250 factory and ~500 practice reloads). I have a partial box of 145gr 357 mag silvertips for my Python if I ever decide to carry it and I have 200 rounds loadad with 140gr XTPs hot for the Python or GP100 I also have ~1500 rounds of 158gr lead RNFP cowboy ammo for the Vaqueros and Blackhawks.
I also load/stock 9X18, 9mm, 38super, 10mm, 38/40, 44 special/mag, 45acp, 45Colt and 480 Ruger and have anywhere from 100(480 Ruger) to 2000 (45acp) loaded rounds.
I buy in bullets in bulk 500 to 2000, primers are bought 5000 at a time and powder in 8lb kegs.
I've got plenty of rifle ammo and over 20k of 22s
I figgure If i quit buying stuff right now it'd take me the rest of my life to compleatly run out LOL.

I stock up too, but Im not sure about how long rimfire rounds last. A friend and myself were shooting the other day and he drug out an ammo can full of old 22 rounds in 50 round boxes, Im not sure how old but the prices were from 15-20 cents a box. some of the rounds were fine but they all made different sounds when, shot a few wouldnt even fire. So now I label my rimfire stuff with the date and make sure to shoot the oldest stuff first.
As far a centerfire goes I try to have 1000 rds sealed up not to be used. With my very limited budget some of those rounds may be inexpensive stuff like tulammo or wolf that I normally wont use anyway but in a pinch it would work, and I figure the coated steel cases will store better anyway.

There's a blurry line between components and rounds. Are we only counting loaded rounds? I also reload to be able to withstand wild price swings and scarcity. Since loading is cheaper in bulk I tend to have a pretty good stash.

Oh gosh, I just started mentally counting it up and ..... well I'd better stop or I'll sound like some kind of gun nut, LOL

Let's just say that I loaded some .45s tonight with powder and primers that I bought in the last century, LOL.

:D
