How much ammo do you keep on hand?

I'm in the "not enough" camp. I have less than 2K total right now.

you're only addicted when you have ammo for guns you haven't bought yet.
AAwww, crap. I'm in trouble. I just bought a couple of bricks of .22LR for the Marlin I'm about to purchase. That's right, I don't even own a rimfire yet.

I currently have about 4,000 rounds of various types of ammunition for my guns on hand but I'm still trying to build up my supply. The trick is buying it faster than I shoot it so that over time I have a net gain. :)

You and me both! All that's out there now is junky nazi stuff and fairly expensive Yugo countersniper.

I like to have at least a case of everything. If I want to take some friends to the range and have some fun with a particular caliber, I'll probably have enough. When I open the last case, I know its time to reorder.

Just out of curiousity, why do you guys stock pile so much ammo? What's the reason for having over 10k rounds stored in your house?

Not trying to start an arguement here. I'm a newb and its an honest question.

One of the most important reasons is,

I'm shooting 7.63x39 Wolf ammo that cost me $54 per 1,000 round case. What's the going price now?

I'm shooting 9mm 115gr WWB that cost me $86.60 per 1,000 round case. What's the price of a thousand rounds of 9mm now?

I'm shooting 9x18 Barnal JHP that cost me $70 per 1,000 round case. You can't even buy that ammo now.

I'm shooting 45ACP that cost me less than $3.00/50 rounds in reloading components. What's the cost of a box of 45 ACP now?

If you don't like the price of ammo now and don't want to stock up, you'll just have to pay a lot more for it next year.
For the last couple weeks, before the price goes up again, I've been buying all the Remington 22LR the local Wal Marts have. Sure enough, Sunday the price went up from $12.32 to $13.88 for 550 value packs.

To answer the question. I don't know how much ammo I have on hand.

I always thought I had enough but now after reading some of these posts I am not so sure.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. Your just buying as much as possible now to save money from the inevitable price increase, or if a particular caliber becomes unavailable.

More than I can lift, including 500rounds of ammo in calibers of guns I no longer own, and brass to make 1000 more. Guesstimating 2000 usable rounds.

Yeah, that's probably the bottom line.
Buy in bulk as inexpensively as you can find it and for some time to come shoot cheaply.
I even reload like that. I'm shooting ammo I loaded in 1993.

Factory ammo is so expensive now that, except for 22LR, I doubt I'll be buying any for a long time.
I really feel for shooters on a tight budget.

an acquaintance of mine bought several skid loads of mixed ammo a few years back. one of the ammo places had a free shipping sale. i wish i had the foresight to get in on it.

i know he got reloadable 223 for something like $99/1000, and some surplus 308 for about the same price (non-reloadable).

Don't have an exact inventory, but here's some rough guesses:
500+ x .45ACP
600+ x 9x19
650 x 9x18
240 x 7.62x25
500+ x 7.62x39
300+ x 7.62x51
100 x 8mm Mauser
575 x 12ga #7-1/2
100 x .17HMR
50 x .380ACP
Brick and a half of .22LR

30lb or so of 3F, 2F, and a couple cans of 4F
50 or so each of .451, .457, .530, and .735 round ball
30 or 40 .45 Buffalo Ballets

Need to make some 2-lb cannonballs for next month.

Only God knows how much I have on hand. But lets say in excess of 50K in 45 acp (I know you won't believe me but when I get back to the bunker I can get a picture), > 35K in .40 cal. 10 to 12K in 9mm

.223 ~ 14K in various boxes. OGK about .308, 30.06 7.62 X39. 3k in 12 gauge Whatever it is, it is not enough.

I reload when I can't shoot and I still have at least 7 buckets of brass to work through. LM

Not nearly enough. Pretty low right now. Just bought four boxes of shotshells because I didn't have anything to shoot this weekend. Yes, you read that right. Boxes. I had six cases...

Saving up to buy reloading stuff, and life and other hobbies are intervening too. Including rimfire, we've got less than a thousand rounds in the house right now.

Not good.

I maintain about 1 .50 cal ammo can of each, cardboard included. Maybe 2 cans of .223. and 1/2 each of buckshot and slugs. Round count I don't know.

between 3-5k at anyone time.

i have 3k .40 in my closet right now, 1k .45 acp + 150 more.

about 100 "00" buckshot

and that is about it for now until i get back of coruse
