ammo problem in Marlin m60

My favorite little .22 is jaming up big time since I started feeding it Remington Thunderbolt bulk.

After about 40 rounds through a clean bore, it fails to feed (won't completely insert round into the chamber.

Could some of you model 60 shooters let me know what is reliably feeding in your rifle, so I can avoid wasting my money a second time.
 
Remington TB's tend to do that in a lot of rifles, not just Marlin 60's. CCI mini-mags are pretty much the gold standard for reliability, but each rifle has its own likes and dislikes.
 
Mine will feed most anything but the Remington, as its excessively dirty. If you leave any oil in it it will build up crud a lot faster. I clean it with Hoppes #9 and wipe off the excess.

My 3 Marlin 60's shoot and feed the Federal bulk the best of the cheap stuff. Winchester isn't bad either but its not as accurate in mine. CCI Mini mags are the best.
 
I'm pretty sure the last box I had was a 500 count "milk carton" of the Federal and I only had a few mis-feed in that entire carton.

I've been meaning to try the CCI ammo. some day.....

what's a reasonable price for the 100 count trays?
 
The problem is your Remington ammo

My 60 will reliably shoot anything BUT Remington.

Strange because Remington is actually the most accurate bulk ammo in my 60 but it's so dirty I can only get 10-20 shots fired before it starts to fail in the gun. Sad...so I go with Federal bulk and Mini-mags
 
My 795 and 10/22 both despised any 22 ammo that said Remington on the box, as does my buddy's 60. All cycle Federal and Blazer bulk with few issues, CCI SV and Mini-Mags with practically 0.
 
Remington is just about all I feed most of my rimfires. You have to try a bit of everything to find what your rifles like.
 
Yup it is it ammo. I put two bricks of federal bulk through my spikes .22 conversion and took it home and cleaned it. Next time out about 35-40 rounds in of TB and it started firing out of battery, those that went off any way. Junk pure junk.
 
Model 60

Give a thorough cleaning and do not use those rounds any more. Mine has misfires and jams on winchester truncated hollow points. I took my own advice.
I shoot Remington sub-sonics or CCI Standard velocity.I saved the WQinchesters for my B A.:) Cliff
 
CCI Mini Mags HV 40 gr. LRN, Blazer HV 40 gr. LRN, CCI Std. Velocity 40 gr. LRN, and Federal 36 gr. HV HP 550 Walmart bulk pack all cycle flawlessly in my new Marlin 60. Winchester Super X 40 gr. LRN do not. This Winchester ammo is excellent and the most accurate in a couple of my other 22s. I put a caliper on it and the Winchester bullets are a little wider.

The CCI Mini Mags were the most accurate round I tried in the Marlin 60.
 
The Remington Thunderbolt bulk stuff does the same thing in my son's 10/22. The stuff is not exactly know to be clean burning ammunition. I run with the general consensus of using CCI as the stuff in bulk burns clean and shoots well. Even Winchester bulk seems to perform well but the Remington is just plain dirty and fouls the rifle quickly.

This little M60 has always impressed me as a lot of rifle for the $90 I paid at Wally World years ago.

B4 the Thunderbolts started jamming up, I put 15 shots within 4" at 50 yds (iron sights adn >40 year old eyes)

Now that I put a 4x scope on it... I'm looking forward to see what she can do at 100 yds. with the CCI ammo.

Remington thunderbolt--winchester wildcat---very dirty ammo
We used to use Mini-mags or CCI purchased in bulk plastic ammo cans--it was the best.
Today I like Federal bulk ammo--works good.
The kids woud shoot for hours with cheap ammo---when that happened we took the trigger assembly out of the gun & outside over a can we sprayed Gun Scrubber into it--the black fouling would pour out into the bucket--sprayed inside the gun--it solved the problems.
Any 22 ammo need to be cleaned out once in a while.

Ive had 4 different model 60s in the last couple of years and they all preferred federal bulk .

Another vote for the Thunderduds being the issue - my 795 hates them with a burning passion (but no burning powder:rolleyes:)

Same action as the 60 - loves anything CCI, I usually get the 100ct boxes of MiniMags at WallyWorld. Around 11 bucks I think.

Really likes CCI Stingers, but they beat the heck out of the buffer pad, so I use very very sparingly
 
i bought like 10k of the rem thunderbolt because it was like half the price of other 22lr ammo. i regret it. won't run in any semi-auto 22lr i own. only thing i can use it in is henry lever action.

the fed bulk packs work pretty decent in all my semis.
 
+1 billion to everyone's experience on this. One of my 60s started doing this and it just needed a decent cleaning (pop the action, gunscrubber it a few times, relube). It still does not like certain ammo styles but was FAR more reliable after.

I find that the Fed bulk pack stuff doesn't reliably cycle a number of my blowback pistols, but works fine in my 10/22 and Model 60. The cheap Blaser bulk pack ammo works fine in every 22LR that I own, at least from a reliability perspective.

Cleaning is most definately NOT the issue....

I ordered a couple boxes of CCI 0030s to try out... seems everyplace around here is always sold out of them.
