The oil refineries is at best a flawed analogy. If you couple the NIMBY attitude of most cities with the environmental regulations you have an artificially controlled market.

Even that will change though if the demand for oil continues to rise. When we can't eat because farmers can't afford fuel to till the fields or haul their crops to market we as an electorate will change our attitude. I just hope it doesn't come to that before we wake up.

Also, even though the oil companies haven't built new refineries they have increased throughput on existing ones with technological advances so it isn't as though no new capacity has been built, just no new facilities.

We have went too far off subject

I think. Even though I mentioned an answer to someone's post about oil refineries I trying to show the difference between those and ammo. Now we have went off on a tangent about oil refineries. Perhaps my fault.

Check Natchez's new pricing -

CCI Blazer 45 ACP - $26.99 / box ............limit 20

CCI Blazer 9mm - $19.99 / box ............... limit 20

Yeah, I just checked out NATCHEZ and I noticed they actually had handgun ammo in stock. After seeing the prices I see why they had ammo in stock because noone wants to pay 40 cents a round for 9mm. NATCHEZ just lost another customer as CTD did a few months back.

Hah. This thread scared me enough when I first started following it in Mid-April. I hit every shop, sporting goods store, and box store in town. Found something to buy maybe 1 trip out of 4. But I kept at it. Now I'm ready for the zombies.:neener:

Have stopped already. Refuse to pay the prices asked when, and a big "if" when, I can find it.

Roll my own, even defense ammo. Sorry.

the wally here gets ammo every now and then. usually twice a week.

it's often enough for me to shoot some, plus keep the ammo stock up without getting raped by the "good prices" offered by the online dealers and local shops.:D

i have noticed even though guns are becoming more plentiful the prices haven't fallen at the local shops.

thank god for the internet and semi reasonable prices.

I wonder why natchez raised their prices? did they just do it, or are they passing on increases from manufactures?

They are capitalizing on demand. My local retailers sell this ammo for $14 a box, but they limit amount that you can buy. It is a golden time for ammo retailers, and Natchez is marking it up as much as they can.
I'll make an effort not to buy from them again - not now, not when (and if) prices come down.

As I have stated in the past what really gets me is to see your local gun shop people standing in line at Walley World. They buy the WWB .40 cal for $13.95 and take it back to their store and sell it for $29.95. We have people that say that we should continue to support our local gun stores even though they are taking advantage of us. I no longer buy anything at the local shops.

As much as I hate Wal-Mart, I must give them credit. In my area they have not raised the price on ammo. Just tonight I picked up 2 boxes of Blazer Brass - $8.97 per box! My local gun store and reginal chain sporting goods store has jacked the prices on all of their ammo - 2-3 times the price.

Don't speak evil of Wal-Mart the Mods will finally lock this thread after 730 posts.....

+1 Iafirebuff on Wal-Mart

My nephew in Michigan found the same 9mm Blazer ammo at a Wally World for 8.97 a box of 50...yes, brass reloadable cases. Limit 6. That was yesterday, May 23.

Iafirebuff does that handle mean you are in Iowa? That is where I live.

If your local gun shop had ANY other way of getting ammo via their normal channels, I'm sure they would. WalMart is such a big volume buyer, that they are going to get first crack at everything. Also, they might well be selling ammo for less than your local gun shop can buy it for from their distributor.

In the short run, it's what they have to do to stay in business. In the long run, it puts them OUT of business, and that's not a good thing.

Blazer 9mm for 8.97

a box of 50 with brass, reloadable cases. That was in Michigan yesterday at a Wal-Mart. I went to a gun show in Iowa this weekend and didn't see any for sale that was not at least double that price. If the dealers want to buy at Wal-Mart and resell maybe they could mark it up 50% instead of 100%. Scheels in West Des Moines had .22 LR bricks for $19 that were $30, same brand, at the gun show by one dealer.

yes I live in Iowa - Waterloo. The ammo I found was on the pallet not even on the shelf. I was the first to open the case - could have bought the whole thing. I only bought 2 boxes though :) I went to the self check out up front :)

Wal-Marts all across the midwest...Iowa included has a 6 box max. They also take the ammo up for you. of course it takes a while to find someone and they seem put out to sell it to you

Ammo, The Gouging Has Started

I noticed that some of the internet mail order houses are starting to get ammo back in stock and the prices are more than double what they were before the shortage.

It's plain and simple gouging!

I'm making a note of the worst ones and intend to never order from them again.

If they have to mark up ammo they bought at Walley World for $13.95 up to $29.95 it is called ripping their customers off. In the past the local shops were a few bucks higher than Wal Mart but not 150 to 200%. Ammo is just a small part of the gun store business but the owners see a way to make a very large profit in the short run, as have the big on line gun/ammo suppliers done also.

As I have posted many times, I no longer do business nor will I do business in the future with the local shops or the gun ranges because of their outrageous product pricing.

I very happy my local shop stayed on The High Road and did not jack up prices. They are good people.
