I agree rm! Don't pay those obscene prices. Wait and find decent prices...they are out there! I found my comfort zone a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm looking at 600 which will last me a couple of months.

I just talked with a co-worker who told me he just bouight 50 rds of Hornady 9mm HP for $50.:what:

Ok, so if we all decide to hold off, ammo prices WILL come down. It won't happen soon, but eventually they will. I guess you have to decide at what inventory level of ammo you're comfortable with.

I said the same thing when gas was $4 a gallon. No more driving. I am still waiting for $1 a gallon...

Jmurman, no need to hold off buying....just start buying smarter, ie plan your purchases after you've found reasonable prices. I call it foraging for ammo.

To be sure today's economic climate isn't what it was last year, or before. We need to change with the ever changing economic climate.

This means calling your mass merchandising sporting goods dealer before the doors open and ask if they have any ammo. If yes, ask them to hold it for you until you can get there to pay for it. Search online for the best deals. I found Cabela's selling 9mm American Eagle for $11.99/box. Quickly ordered 4 boxes, and I'm waiting for it.

Planning, preparation and swift action is the key. But more importantly is patience. All this will blow over in time.

Yeah, and don't listen to the elitists who like to pretend they shoot every day.

"Ohhhh shame on you for not buying ammo and shooting twice a week!"
Let's be honest, not all of us shoot that much.

Not buying nonessential ammo isn't going to hurt anyone.

I never saw it coming !!!!

I guess my head was up my you know where. I shoot more than twice a week as a Bullseye competitor, and I recently started steel plate matches for fun. I am raising 5 kids and can't buy bulk. Even at the normal price it's hard. Just remember, guy's like me can shoot because we practice and use it up. Guy's who hoard it aren't getting any practice. I am still having fun. I'll buy components and reload. If you buy ammo already loaded to shoot in matches than you make to much money. Start reloading !!!!!!!!:neener:

I've bought a fair amount of ammo so far this year and don't mind the prices.

I decided a while ago to encourage gun ownership and shooting where I can. That includes -- mostly means -- introducing new people and re-interesting existing passive gun owners. To do that I take people shooting when I can, bringing a variety of guns, and let them have fun. That means ammo. I handload but I don't use my handloads for personal reasons.

My opinion is that I need more people on my side, supporting my rights. If I have to spend a little more now to do that... well, it's also a little more important now given Chicago's influence on US Federal politics at the moment. Frankly I think ammo is CHEAP compared to the alternative.

Just went to Gander (gouger) Mountain in York, PA. $49.95 for 50 round Remington UMC ball ammo in most calibers. Freakin's insane. Glad a I reload.

Good for you, rugerman07, if all of us would get togather and stand firm against buying ANY ammo for ANY price, the whole thing would be over in 60 days.

Simple economics, skyrocketing demand, limited supply = skyrocketing prices. The ammo companies are working 24/7 right now, still can't keep up. The real problem here are the jerks that buy 50,000 primers at a time, 10 cases of ammo, 30 lbs of powder, ect, ect. Its an irrational fear, Obama's not moving on guns anytime soon. We've created this monster, we're our own worst enemy.

So what makes you think that ammo prices are ever gonna come down? Why should they? If they can sell all they can make for a "inflated" price, what makes you think they will drop the price. We've bitched and moaned for years about gasoline prices has it done any good? Ammo is the new gasoline, we will pay whatever they tell us we'll pay.

I haven't bought ammo in at least a year and a half. I bought enough reloading components back then to easily get me through this time of price goughing. It didn't happen by design, just got lucky I guess.

Look for cheaper gun and ammo prices within the next 6 months. I'm already starting to see friends and family sell guns to help make ends meet. The tax refund buying is basically over at this point and people are too stretched paying their mortgage and credit card payments. If you own a gun store you better scale down excess inventories while the getting is good.

I don't think we'll see $200 Colt AR 15s but there will be some deals out there. Keep your money ready to buy in 6 months. The sky isn't falling as long as we remain politically active and vigilant.

Your key words "some deals" won't make enough of a difference to even phase today's prices. I'm not being all doom and gloom, but you're never gonna see prices return to the prices we had two years ago.

Bubba I'm talking more about Pre-election prices returning and some great deals on used guns. Broke People=Stuff Sold Cheap.

Non Necessity Items = First items broke people selll

Boats, Sporting goods and guns= Non necessity items.

Guns=Stuff Sold Cheap

This is basically the way I see it.
If another ban takes place then this is wrong. If we keep fighting no new ban.

If 100 different people sold their ar-15 for $500 you think it's going to affect the price of the rest? No.
If another 100 different people sell 500, 000 rounds of .223 for $200 a case you think it's going to affect the price? No.

we will pay whatever they tell us we'll pay.

You might, but I will not. I'll learn to use a stick and sharp pointy things effectively. Nobody is going to force their prices on me.

If demand drops then prices fall.

Look at houses. Six years ago people would literally camp out in front of real estate developers' offices to have a chance to buy a house... huge demand... and prices skyrocketted. Then people hit the wall financially and everything collapsed.

Two years ago people were filling their gas tanks every week with $3, $4, almost $5 /gal gasoline... and as the prices climbed the demand held steady. Then other things changed, jobs were lost, demand dropped, and a has station that offered gas for $4/gal would be laughed out of the country.

Prices always change and nothing is fixed. This too shall pass.

Good luck with that stick and pointy things. You can carry them on the horse you ride cause you won't pay those inflated gas prices
