Ammo Shortage??

Where do you find it that cheap?

At local gun shows it's $140/1,000 rounds.

www.aimsurplus.com (this where i got most of mine)
used to have 1000 rounds for $75.00 (silver bear match grade)

gun shows Wolf Polymer Coated was easily had for about $85 per thousand.

I noticed the shortage shortly after Katrina hit. I went to stock up and most of the places I got mine didn't have much less or the price had jumped by about 25 dollars per 1,000.

Yeah, I bought a case of Wolf for about $90 last August. Last week it was around $120 or more. Definitely a recent development.

The tables at the guns shows here in Houston still have plenty it seems, but the online guys are almost all out.

OK I just got an answer from Wolf

I've got about 10,000 rounds so I'm not too worried...5,000 is my panic level. I think Cabelas had some not too long ago and I know that Sportsmans Guide is saying 12/15/05 for their next batch.

I am wishing that I had more x39 stocked right now. I have about 600-700 of Wolf, and another 500 rounds of Norinco steel core, but thats it for my 7.62x39.

I need more.

No problems with availability in my area.

So far there have been no shortages in my area yet. I assume this is supposed to be due to the war, but recent gun shows here have had .223 and 7.62 at not much over regular prices.

I never use it, I've only had bad luck with russian ammo.
the local reno crossroads show ran out of x39 and allmost ran out of .223 ...it may have by the end of the day.
A local gun guru says x39 will reappear in a few months.

I know. Even better, it was given to me by a friend who had gotten rid of his SKS. He gave me 511 rounds, I shot 10, will section out 1, and keep the rest for a rainy day.

Ammo Shortgage

I've been toying with the idea of getting an AK in 7.62x39 for awhile now. I thought alot harder after Katrina/Rita, to the point where I started earmarking some post X-Mas cash for a January purchase.

But I just conducted a cursory...and depressing....survey of ammoman/SOG/AIM/Cheaperthandirt etx and theres alot of "Sold Out" stickers next to the AK ammo.
