what does a bulk pack of ammunition cost in your area at walmart and Dunhams?

At my dunhams in michigan, remington bulk packs
115 gr 9mm fmj is 190.00 /200 rounds on sale
230 gr 4 acp fmj is 188.00/200

My walmart doesnt have the bulk ammo, but they do have standard size boxes.

38 spcl 125 gr 10.00 /20

Running past $25 dollars a box of 50 .45 ACP towards 30 or more. Some Corbons are going to beat 45 dollars already for less than 50 rounds.

Shotgun ammuntion is getting expensive but buying online removes taxes but replaces it with shipping at some savings against retail.

Eventually online sales with careful attention to "IN stock ships today" against "Back ordered" after you finish paying with credit card....

You either get it or not at any price. So carry a hundred in your wallet and be prepared to pounce onto that one box when you do see it in your caliber.

Finally, start learning when the trucks arrive at your ammo shop, be there first thing to get it.

and that was a big monthly sale at dunhams. They are at least kind enough to knock off $18-20 a box of 200 rounds.

still they charge 249 for a surplus ammo can filled with boxes of surplus 7.62x51 fmj.

300 gets you a sardine can of bulgarian 7.62x39. 300 for a spam can of 223 nato thats partially opened on one side.

my Pamida store sells 20 round boxes of american eagle 44 mag jsp; 38 spcl 158 gr lrn; and 357 for 20 bucks after tax.

You can find ammo?

Last time I was in Walmart they were out of 9mm, 45 acp, and 22lr.

Bass Pro and two boxes of 20 rounds of 45acp and no 9mm.

I wish someone knew what's going on with ammo availability in general. I know why it's in demand, but is production limited or what?

I'm with gossamer. I'd be willing to pay even a hefty price for some 9mm Winchester White Box. I haven't seen any in seven weeks or more at the local WallyWorld, or anywhere else, for that matter; everybody is out.

Heck, I'd offer, say, $20 for a box of 100 rounds. Go ahead and laugh. I would. Honest. :)

My super center walmart put its gun area next to the kiddie toy/bycicle area. so if your lucky you may find an employee in the general area. But its never one thats authorized to be behind the gun counter.

Same for my dunhams. they dont like anyone looking at guns. The gun guys treat you like crap if you want to look at a gun. and if you want to look at more then one gun at a time, forget about it.

I just bought 4 boxes of bb 9mm for the range tommorrow. 8.57 or so/ box from walmart. 45 is harder to come by but still less than 17.00 for bb from walmart

Yeah ammo is sold out every place i go a few weeks ago i got 100 round boxes of 9mm at big 5 for $25 but i had to go to a local gun shop today to get some and it was 16.95 per 50 and I'm with you guys i want to know whats up with all the ammo seems like they haven't been making much of it or something

they are making plenty of it. it is just there is a concerted effort by many more people to stock up on it then before. a buddy of mine who had never owned a gun before last week got a 45 and then went and shot 300 rounds to get familiar with it. I can not tell you how many of my friends have bought weapons for the first time in their lives and are actually going to the range to shoot them.

Wally World had CCI 40 S&W ammo A First this Year

:neener:Bought 5 boxes CCI Brass 180 grain 40's at $12.47 A BOX:D

Caught the sales person at 8:36 am just locking the case after putting them in the case.
Before she could walk away I had her open it and get me the 5 boxes.

FYI I left 5 boxes in the case LOL didn't want to be acused of hoarding.

Both folks I know who work in the ammo industry have said the same thing.

The shortages are being caused by police depts across the USA. One dept. in the southern portion of California recently purchased 1.5 million rounds of the service handgun caliber. All large metro depts are doing the same thing.
None of the manufactures can keep up with the .223 demand as SWAT teams step up their training and stored ammo. The military is not the cause as Lake provides most of the ammo under contract.
I wonder what PD's are stocking up for?

Wal-Mart Georgetown KY, 9mm Winchester target 19.95, .40 S&W 26.95 per 100. Federal .223 55gr fmj 38.95 per 100 ( well they had the .223, all mine now). had lots of 9mm and .40 on 3/6/09

theswimmer,

If that is the true root cause shouldn't the shortages be confined to service pistol rounds? What would they be now, .40, 9mm, rarely .45's?

Why all the .38 spl and .357 mag shortages as PD's have all gone semi auto?

Are you serious? One hundred and ninety dollars for 200 rounds of 9mm Luger/9x19??? Is this dunhams place the only legal entity in MI that can sell ammo?...in that case, I can understand the monopoly thing.

rswartsell,

Respectfully,
Domestic production of .45acp,.38 spec &.357 probably account for less than 5% total production.
Fairly easy to over sell the supply chain. Most of the LE folks I know, including my wife, carry 2 guns, one issued, one backup of choice.Overwelmingly the calibers used are .45acp, 38spec &.357.
Nuff Said?

So PD's buy ammo for their officer's BUG? Not sure the significance of domestic vs. TTL production to my question, but probably not worth belaboring.

rswartsell Respectfully,
Not usually but officers buy ammo for their backups. Stocking up is not confined to the general public. Belive it or not the bulk of ammo sold at large retail outlets is US produced. My 3 Walmarts here in Kalifonia don't ever have imported ammo for sale.I don't know if this holds true for the rest of the country however.
The only shortages I see localy are at big retailers, both the real gun stores that I frequent have a very large supply of ammo in a huge assortment of calibers.... I mean wierd stuff like .475 Linebaugh, at $17.85 a shot.
The shortages I see are mainly in high production , low quality bulk pack stuff, or mil-surp, Wolf ect.
My 2cts

I wouldn't know.............there haven't been any bulk packs at my WalMart in months.

I just bought 2 100 round winchester white box 9mm for 21.95 at the Scheels where I live. I also stocked up on wolf 7.62x39 at 5.95 a box (20 round). Scheels also sells 250 round UMC for 9mm at 52.99.

I also spend a little more to buy Black Hills Ammunition as it is a local company. But, it is also a little higher. $32 for 50 rounds of 9mm 146g fmj
