Good Price? Rem 115gr HP Standard Pressure

Hello,

The local Walmart is selling standard pressure 115gr Remington HP (not GS) in bulk packs of 100 for a little under $20.

Is this a good value for this ammunition? I'm trying to get stored up.

I haven't tried that ammo but I've been reloading practice ammo with rem 115gr hollow points at standard velocities and it's very accurate and that sounds like a good price. I may have to see if my WalMart has it.

I've shot some of that ammo, both in 9mm and .45 (currently $33.98/100 for .45). It has always functioned well for me, firing, feeding and ejecting as it is supposed to, which is 99% of my criteria for what constitutes good ammo (or gun, for that matter). The only reservation I have for "social purposes" is that the 9mm has a fairly noticeable muzzle flash under the lights of the indoor range I usually shoot at. If used at night it might be excessive. However, you don't get the special flash-retardant propellants in the premium lines that cheap. It is definitely a less expensive way to test your new gun's reliability with hollowpoints.

that's funny, I JUST picked up a box of those at wallyworld yesterday too, but haven't had a chance to try them yet. It's definitely a decent price since they sell the wwb 115 gr gp's for just under $15 for 50. I do notice looking at the ballistic tables that the wwb seems to be loaded a fair amount hotter than the remington's, but we'll see how they do. That Wal-mart hasn't had the wwb ones for awhile now and seemed be be clearancing out a fair amount of winchester shells, I wonder if they are switching over to remington's more or something, since they seem to have more remington and federal ammo these days.

The good old days seem to be over for ammo prices alas--I did get 9 boxes of winchester 115 gr ball ammo from a local dealer recently for $5/box, but those deals aren't going to happen much longer

Decent price, but beware of the flash. I compared the Rem to the WWB at night and the Rem does have considerable muzzle flash. The WWB was significantly better in that respect. As the previous poster said, I would probably not use the Rem for defensive applications, but for practice and function testing they are fine.
