AMT Longslide Hardballer .45 ? A Nice gun to Own?

I have a like new in the box AMT Hardballer longslide 45.I have not shot it hardly at all.I am not sure to keep it or not.They are selling for quite abite.A friend is a FFl dealer.I have seen 775.00 to 925.00 plus.Looking for help and ideas!I do not have to depart with it.All information is appreciated.

AMT was hit and miss as far as quality. I'm not sure about the long slide models in particular though. You could probably sit on it and sell it for even more later down the road. It's not like they're going to be making any more of them. That's just my guess though, maybe someone with more experience with the AMT long slides can chime in?

I had a standard hardballer. It was mostly miss, but I (actually, my gunsmith) got it working with hardball, no hollow points, but fed ball okay. Out of the box, it was a jammamatic. Turned out that the extractor wasn't properly fitted and he polished the feed ramp and worked it over just to get it to feed ball. It shot 2 1/2" at 25 yards accurate. All in all, I prefer my Ruger P90, more accurate and feeds anything.

Put a hard chrome coating and pachmayr's wood+rubber grips and call it a silverballer. Also shave your head, wear a suit and get a bar code tattooed on the back of your neck.

I'd have the frame HCed, the frame on my hardballer seems pretty soft, and AMTs were known for galling.

Mine has been rebuilt into a dedicated rimfire.

I had one, it was kinda neat but accuracy was nowhere what you'd expect. The quality and fit/finish were also rather poor. Think U.S. made LLama max1 made at quitting time before a holiday weekend. If folks are buying and paying top dollar I would strike while the iron is hot and unload the Hardballer now if you think you may want to sell, before folks come to their senses.

WHen they first came out I bought a 5" Hardballer. Gun ran great and I sold it off to get the Longslide. WHAT A MISTAKE !!!! For the first 200/400 rds. -- it was a single shot.
Then it started to become a "almost semi-auto" for the next 200/300 rds. Then it worked PERFECT for about 1000 rds. and then fell to pieces ---- brl. link broke , recoil lugs on barrel cracked , rear sight fell off etc. etc.
Really a shame because I liked the way it shot{accurate and mild recoil}when it worked --- I've never had another firearm break in and then BREAK in under 3000 rds.

If I still had a Longslider and could get $700 for it --- it would be gone in a heartbeat.
