I had one back in the 80s and loved it. You mentioned the Automag 30 cal. No gun has a better muzzle flash than it. Very loud also....Russ

Wow, lasers have come a long way.

BTW, I used to have an AMT hardballer I bought in 1993. I modified it a little and it was a great shooter. In fact, it is the only 1911 I've ever owned (and I've had 4 more) that I didn't have some type of trouble with it. I LOVE your longslide. I would have snapped that one up too. I hope you shoot it and enjoy it instead of letting it languish in a safe somewhere.

I have owned several AMT stainless steel pistols over the years, and still have a few. Generous lubrication with Tetra gun grease on all bearing surfaces keeps them purring like a kitten. Way back then, stainless steel metallurgy was not as well understood as it is today, and galling was a common problem for all stainless steel pistols made back in the early 80's.

Before you shoot it (if you decide to) or if you’re just curious, test the safety thusly:

With the gun UNLOADED, rack the slide and engage the thumb safety. Now, pull the trigger. If the hammer falls, it needs work. That’s what mine did; only I was demonstrating the function of the safety and the gun fired (downrange), shearing the thumb safety off.

After I had the guts redone, it was an awesome shooter. I wish I still had it!

Sweet find! I'm a little jealous. :)

I guess pocket carry is out?
What's our standing mantra around here? "With the right holster, you can carry just about anything, using just about any method." ;)
