an existing thread that troubleshoots newly installed extractors?

I have a known low quality pistol, which I would like to improve reliability of case extraction prior to selling it. If I keep it I want it to be more reliable.

It's a Davis Industries P-380 with a new factory slide & extractor made for Cobra CA380.
It was reliably extracting with the original 1990 slide and extractor.
Factory Slide started to crack at the typical failure point for these slides, right behind the muzzle.

Upon the slide returning to fire position, with a round in the chamber, the new slide stops a about 2 millimeters from being fully forward and doesn't allow the extractor to grab the brass. Of course, the pistol will still fire.

If I tap the rear of the slide, I hear a faint click and can see the slide slightly move forward.. I know all is well for the next trigger pull.

It appears the extractor may be the cause, this issue does happen on empty chambers.
I would guess I have a 30% failure rate with Federal Brass and a 90% failure rate with Remington brass.

I don't have a proper size punch to change extractors between the slides, but I wondered if filing would possibly be a solution.

I couldn't find if there is an existing thread on extractor troubleshooting or extractor modifications. If I were to guess the extractor may be hanging a tad too low, I wanted to verify ideas before I applied a permanent adjustment with a file.

Put your file away. A little polishing with fine emery cloth might be all it needs. Shine up the taper that contacts the rim and drag the cloth across the hook of the extractor one time to remove any burrs. Also be sure there is a little lube in the extractor slot in the slide. Not lots, just a drop will do.
