An Unusual Handgun Question.

LAR Grizzly 44 mk IV in .44 mag.

Wildey .475 mag. (except for the finding ammo problem)

Ok then, so we have established that this guy is a monster hunter, rather than a man hunter. That means we don't have to give him a 9mm or .45, which most pros would have for humans. We get to give him something cooler. :D

If it has to be super-powerful and an autoloader, then you would want a Desert Eagle. The problem with that, however, is that every videogame/movie/TV show has used it before.

So, if he needs at least one autoloader, I say go with something in .45 but with super-hot handloads, or in 10mm. This could be his backup/human killer.

For his main handgun, for the 'big nasties', you should give him some kind of Revolver. Preferably in a cool chambering like .454 or .460, but the common .44 mag is also nice. :D

How about the Mateba? It comes in .357mag, .44mag and .454 Casull:

Someome else mentioned the .50GI cartridge, which would be cool.

Here is a 1911 style one:

Holy Hades. That Grizzly is the epitome of badass.

That is a goo dpoint, A Handloader, whcih makes sense for the character; could simply buy a assload of lead and brass for whatever cart he prefers for pennies on the dollar compared to buying the same ammuntion from a manufactuer. On top of tha the can hotload it for whatever he wants.

So then, Now I'm a bit confused; one I've never seen either cart; .50 GI or .45 Winchester Magnum; with my own eyes before, can someone link an image to that?

And I'm really liking that Grizzly LR. Nasty.

the .50 GI isn't that impressive if you ask me. you aren't even going to find .50 bullets (other than muzzleloader balls) at most places reloading components are sold.

.45 mag stuff here:

to me, it seems that the .45 win mag dosen't have much on the .45 super, certainly nothing worth the extra length ang giving up .45ACP compatabillity.

How about the Mateba? It comes in .357mag, .44mag and .454 Casull:

The Mateba is now in .454? Holy crud. You can double one of the standard ones (i.e. recoil will sometimes cause you to fire two rounds rather than one due to the light SA pull). With the .454, you might triple.

What's a Deagle?

And why are they cheesy?

I hunt and shoot 200 meter steel silhouette with my DESERT EAGLE pistol. (Deagle = CounterStrike kiddy slang) It's reliable, hard-hitting, and quite accurate, without the fragility or problems getting parts associated with the now-defunct Coonans. They're solid, real metal, and have been in production since 1984, so finding one popping up in some obscure corner of the world really isn't that much of a stretch.

Although, I may have to photoshop mine with a big Kraft logo once I find the cheese content hidden within:

It's coming at you, slavering and rasping for your blood; you've got one shot - What would you choose to drop that thing on it's pus-bag ass perminantly?
12 gauge slug

Gotta agree with the slug for this one...maybe he'll need a 12 guage in the trunk.

Another thought: If the guy's going to reload, it would be much easier with revolver(s) (either dumping brass in a small area or into a pouch) than to end each action scene with him scrounging around the battlefield for brass thrown all over during the fight by an auto.

How about something like the STI Tactical 5.0, but maybe add a compensator and red dot similar to the TruBor.

Large capacity, big bore, something that looks neat and original without the cliche of the Desert Eagle.

Add some mumbojumbo about the protagonist having the gun beefed up to take an obscure/obsolete cartridge like the 450 SMC (Short Magnum Cartridge), but that he can still use .45 ACP in a pinch.

Ballistics for 450 SMC and .45 ACP
450 SMC
165 grain at 1,450fps 770ftlbs
230 grain at 1,150fps 675ftlbs

45 ACP +P Factory Ballistics
165 grain at 1250fps 573ftlbs
185 grain at 1150fps 543ftlbs
200 grain at 1050fps 490ftlbs
230 grain at 950fps 461ftlbs

I remember a SBH converted to fire a short 458 win mag case the 458 White horse I think it was called.
I like the idea of the Wildey SA every one remembers Paul Kersey in DW III but has anyone seen the "Dollman" movies with Tim Thomerson his character carried a Wildey . They were cheesy but fun
If you want ideas for cartridges buy a copy Of "Cartridges of the World" has pictures and description of all kinds of rifle and pistol cartridges

Roger Rabbit meets the Snow Bunny for a BBQ

I would stick with his arsenal of two-fisted pocket machine guns and rocket launchers for breakfest, than move onto small artilliary and bombs for lunch and dinner.

The Armat M41A assualt rifle. It takes out Aliens, and is a 10mm. The automatic sentry guns in Aliens was also 10mm. It also appeared in Terminator 2. The human resistance force used it against the machines in the future. For those who think the 10mm is dying: got news for you, the 10mmx24 is the future!!

Hellboy used the Mateba against all the creatures from the underworld. The M14a is a fictional weapon. The Mateba is real.... but the loads Hellboy uses against demons is just a prop.

Hahah. Yeah make fun of me.

Least I'm not trying to find a way to take multiple .308 rounds to the back.

If it's supposed to be high-powered and available anywhere it has to be .44Mag.

I've decided that he probably should carry just a single Revolver in .454; since a few good points have been made of how tempermental big-bore Automatics can be in varying temperatures and environments.

I still think I may give him a Coonan or some other smaller-framed weapon for a CCW; since it'll be rather difficult to carry around a .454 Magnum and sufficent extra rounds if he's trying to keep a low-profile while buying a pack of Ring-Dings and a Pepsi.

Choices, choices, choices...

Here's how I see it:

Automatic: Sig P220ST loaded with 230grn Gold Dots - This is the 'defend yourself from getting robbed & will cause the biggest, nastiest critter to pause if nothing else' gun. A shot to the head will remove enough cranium to at least slow down said supernatural nightmare. Ammo is NO problem. Plus you can hang all the latest and greatest tacticool stuff off it. :p

Main 'monster gun': What about one of the T/C Contender variants? Not the most concealable, but with changeable barrels you can adjust your round to what you're 'hunting'. Hook up some monsterous rifle type round, use the P220ST to slow it down enough to unlimber the TC and chop it in half. :p

PS: You need to add one of OEF_VET's 'Ultimate Silly Shotgun'

3" .44 Mag S&W 629

Can be carried as CCW / CQB weapon (I do) and is surprisingly not that hard to conceal. A good marksman should not have too much trouble with things like black bears, wolves, charging boars as long as the critters are say under approx 500 lbs. IMHO. Much over that size and he/she will need to be a very good marksman. A fine example is the S&W Performance Center 629 with ports or a fancy engraved Lew Horton model 29 with rosewood grips. I have both of these and they work great as carry pieces. I think the BOOM and FLASH on firing the PC 629 would just scare the crap out of a mugger.

Hellboy's gun was a freakin' cannon with a handgrip. There's no way someone human, even as fairly solid as Remington; would be able to fire that sucker without breaking either his arm, or his face.

The revolver's been decided on as far as caliber goes; so feel free to start reccomending a few good .454 Casull revolvers; I'd considered the .460 and the .500; But from a writer's standpoint of Remington's personality; anything that could eat a 'Hot' Loaded .454 to the cranium and keep coming is something he's going to run like HELL from, not fight.

The Automatic and presumed longarms got me to thinking; I'd imagine he'd keep a couple of shotguns in the trunk; probably a chopped-down pump-action for all it's varied uses; and a hand-smithed ol' Double-Barrel chopper-Offer with composite barrels; for using Dragonsbreath and Magneisum nastiness for the things that don't like fire. Anyone that could reccoment two of those would be useful; I recall CZ I think made some pump-action riotgun with a 5-shell magazine I'd be interested in seeing again; and of course a good ol' Boomstick, hell if someone can give me the exact model of gun Ash used in Army of Darkness - I'll take that. :D

The automatic's have me at a three-way crossroads; I like the Coonan for it's availability of ammunition, but the .45 Modded for .45 Super is rather nice too; as is the Grizzly .44 Magnum. CCW isn't an issue as Remington's about 6'2"- six three-ish and weighs in just about 210lbs give or take a donut; so fitting a bigger framed auto under his jacket isn't too hard; mostly I'm down to reliability and minimaliing slide-hang from longer casings.

Thoughts and images are again, WELCOME.

my suggestions:

in revolver: Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan.
in Auto: HK USP Tactical in .45 (.45 super without mods and threaded for supressor/compensator)
although, there is a lot of "style points" in a good ole 1911 with a beefed up barrel for .45 super.

p.s. 12 gauge marine flares fire just fine from a regular shotgun.
