And this why why we oppose waiting periods

This case is perfectly emblematic of what is wrong with "gun control" -- it prevented the victim from defending herself while not stopping the perpetrator.

Waiting periods are unconstitutional because they assume guilt on the person trying to buy a firearm. They assume the person buying the firearm intends to commit a crime or has already committed a crime.

Let us all send this story to the congressmen and women of NJ plus the lefty and righty politicians in the locale as I do here where I live whether they listen or not. We elect them and pay them so make them tow the line and make them aware of somebody's stupidity-maybe theirs?

CoalTrain49, And those who have no opinion on government are not even ashamed of it; they are proud of it and know not of this "Second Amendment". They are not even aware that their state is limiting their civil rights.

No doubt. I find it incredible that people get sideways with 1A, 4A and 14A violations of their constitutional rights but don't give a damn when their 2A rights are violated. A lot of those people live in NJ and CA.

If your state doesnt allow or makes difficult the possession of a gun, I have 2 words for you: Bear Spray. Get a can of UDAP and carry it. Within 20ft, it can be MORE effective than a gun at stopping an assailant. Its hard to fight when you cant see or breath.

This looks very good, and importantly, usable by an old lady. Thank you very much.

If BG has a gun and you spray him with this, what happens? Does he keep firing but just can't aim?

depends on the bg. i've seen guys tank foxlabs mace and keep right on coming, sober guys. i've also seen guys that look like they should be linebackers curl up like children after taking a hit.

But guns are so easy to get, do to all the loop holes in the background check laws.... I'm sure there were 20 gun shows in NJ that she could have easily bought a gun without any compliance with the legal requirements.... right?

:rolleyes:

Unless I'm badly mistaken spraying a human with bear spray is illegal, I know it is considered a pesticide and therefore regulated by the EPA.

Pepper spray is essentially the same thing, just legal and in a smaller package.

The more this story gets circulated, the better it serves to put egg on the face of the shameless political elite in New Jersey. The politicians don't care except for the potential public outcry that this might generate if given enough airtime.

:::update:::

Gov. Chris Christie has created a commission to study the ownership and possession of firearms after a woman who had received a domestic-violence restraining order against an ex-boyfriend was killed at home while waiting for a gun permit to be approved..........

Under the proposed changes, firearm applications would be reviewed on a 14-day basis if the applicant has been a victim of violence or threatened violence, or if the applicant is living under threat, like a restraining order.

I don't think anything will change in the end, my personal belief is that this is just politics. This comes out right as he announces a presidential campaign? Seems more than a little fishy to me. But still glad to hear it, at least some attn. has been drawn.

What an excellent step forward for NJ if coupled with wording to make violating a restraining order extra illegal during those two weeks. I mean, not just a little more illegal but really, really illegal. :rolleyes:
