I recently learned my 8 yr old grade daughter loves shooting her bb gun which I did not know she had. She sits on the back patio deck steps and shoots at paper plates her dad has set up. The stock is cut off to accomodate her petite size. Last Thursday I took her to our club silhouette range to knock over Ram and Turkey sizesplus hit some swingers. I used one of the clubs scoped .22 Savage youth rifles set up on sand bags on one of our sight in benchs. First 4 shots, she hits the 4 swingers set out 30 meters. I couldn't believe my eyes. We had all ready set up a couple ram's and turkeys at 40 meters and she knocks them off the stands.......all in 42 degree weather. We lasted about 45 minutes of her plinking and she enjoyed every minute of it as I did. She did not have school Thurs and Friday and thought would be a good time to intorduce her to the real thing. Yesterday she called me and asked when are we going the next time? We are going this Thursday, after school, and will go indoors to shoot paper at 50feet. Yesterday, I ordered her a Savage Mark I, youth with accu-trigger. I all ready have a spare Nikon Monark 4.5-14 to put on it and may have an eye relief problem if can not get it back far enough. Otherwise will have to buy a scope with long eye relief like ones on club rifles. Abby was really plinking away with NO difficulties for first time! Made her Grandpa proud.
I also belong to bbbs and have a little in 3rd grade, 8 yrs old, and had him out to the range a couple times. He also enjoys the Silhouette range and should be a good challege when I get the both of them together next season.
They will do some indoor together with me this winter. Thought I would share my granddaughters and mine latest experience. I certainly will follow through with this sport she may enjoy in the future.
