Try watching Apocalypse Man. We can only hope people act that stupid when SHTF.

More than three guns in one home(arsenal)

1 .22 in the home = arsenal
10-22 with long mag = high capacity assault rifle
Winchester single shot .22 bolt action = sniper rifle

OMG you have a MAGNUM? You must want to kill people.

I haven't been able to take the History Channel seriously since UFO hunters and Monster Quest hit the air. They seem to only have history on 12/7 and 11/11. Maybe 9/11, maybe not (i.e. controlled demolition conspiracy theory crap.)

The term sniper is so loosely used anymore it almost means nothing. I once heard the term sniper describing someone making 15 or 20 yard shots during a report about some fighting going on from building to building. As one person mentioned above, the news story about the guy with the Beretta m-9. He was referred to as a sniper. Yeah, more meaningless words.

Perhaps someday the narrator will learn some factual things about shooting and feel really embarrased. Although it's not really his fault since I'm sure someone else wrote it. Someone should be embarrased for this.

One good thing about the History Channel is that I had my first kiss during Tales of the Gun.:D

Hello all RON L here

While I agree that the History Channel and Military channel don't always show the real deal, one has to keep it all in prespective? I'm not going to agree with the Preddle they peddle but in WW2 Russian "SNIPERS" were using the Mosin 91/30 and most of htier shots were well within 100 yards? Police Sniping at subjects can and does take place from as few as 25 yards out to past 500? It's all a matter of what works, whats required and what the sniper feels comfortable with? I see the Average american or anyone as Mostly Sheep and if they knew what I have owned and do carry day to day they would crap thier pants! LOL Series like Apocolipse man and other shows like that show the level of Prepardness most folks have = 0??? But I'd rather thay try and prepare, Try and learn and if they have to start and learn at that low level, if they start at least thats good? My own Family fits the Sheep role, not my Sons or wife but Sisters and my parents lived as thought they had not a care inthe world? I have been preparing for Decades and I never stop prepping, never stop learning and I see Tools, Knowledge and so many more items JUST AS IMPORTANT as my FIREARMS and other weapons? Just a thought folks, no one knows it all and no one has all the right preps?

This is why NSSF and NRA have had media education programs, but since cable and the 24 hour news cycle, there is no way to touch them all. Not a week goes buy that I don't see some moron in the media tell people something about guns that is completely untrue, and like others have said, non gun people just eat it up with all the other crap they shove down their throats.

It was an over sensationalized television show. I don't believe any of it happened. not the present day stuff in iraq and especially the uber elite vietnam killing spree scope shot non sense.

history

Know I know why the Nazi UFO thingies never went anywhere. They couldn't get 'em out the bunker door, same as the guy who built a yacht in his basement.

My sarcasm meter seems to be broken today.

Sarcasm? hopefully?

so far the history channel's depiction of history is-

evolution. nothing else, everybody else is dumb.

dinosaurs. big. rawr. imaginary stand offs between different time period preadators.

beginning of man. we came from monkeys, and don't dispute it.

world war two. overglorified horror for others enjoyment when it's really hell.

JFK assasination. every conspiracy known to man, from more than one shooter to government involvement and soon coming might just be that Bush assasinated him.

pawn stars. we love filiming guys rip off folks with merchandise with price offers at half price and a dude with all the intelligence of a cave-man. this is history folks, its just being made every day!

monsters. they exist. loch ness, bigfoot, and a little dog like animal that sucks blood. lets all listen to the stories! oh and yay history!

aliens. crop circles, funky floating dishes, and true (weed smokers) eyewitness accounts

nostradomus effect. predictions, disasters, and all that junk

2012. proof that the world ends in 2012. don't dispute it, the indians did not run out of room on the rock to add any more years onto the calendar.

and they call this the History Channel?

I am not implying that there were no armed conflicts. I have family, extended family, and close friends that have risked thier lives in Afganistan and Iraq. See my above post:

When the individual who identified himself as a 'sniper' said that the street in front of his 'nest' was littered with so many corpses (as a result of his uber Cod4 talents) that wild dogs were coming out of alleys to eat them

That is trash and an insult to those who serve. I've never seen someone so proud of killing other people. The WWII, Korean, and Vietnam veterans that i see from time to time in a nursing home I visit never seem to brag about the endless slaughter of humans that came from the muzzle of thier weapons.

Yeah I got suckered somehow into watching one of the doomsday-worlds gonna end-everybody dies-steelers arent going to the playoffs show the other day about a guy trying to get his family from Los Angeles to
Idaho after a pandemic. They found a truck parked and hotwired it, and in the glove box found a revolver. The guy said something like "Wow the guy who had this truck must have thought he was a cowboy or something". Great job History Channel. Well done.

Relax people, its TV, drama sells, and accuracy in TV shows not a requirement. If anything with more and more shows vying for market share it will get worse. For heaven sake they report on News show about Premium gass being unnecessary and it being nothing better than regular. They even have two bit "engineers" verifying you don't need it in your car, all the while ignoring the reality of high compression engines requiring exactly that gas grade to prevent detonation (knock). They ignore all that, and its easy to find the the info, so yeah its not only guns, TV is just propaganda and general misinformation a big percentage of the time.:banghead:

Not to defend the History Channel's overboard narratives, but if you look up the definition of "sniper," you will find it refers to a person who shoots from a place of concealment. There's nothing about range or even skilled marksmanship. That's us putting our spin on the term.

The History Channel, like any entertainment business, has to deliver audience to be able to get enough advertising and cable share revenue to stay open. That doing that requires the History Channel to deliver pre-digested pap to people who still think pyramids will keep their razor blades sharp is nothing new. It's the same thing that keeps the National Enquirer and the Star on the racks at your local grocery store and Inside Edition and Nancy Grace on the tube. Face it: most people don't want information; they want info-tainment.

its all about sensationalism. its basically professional wrestling style hype applied to history. take the movie Titanic. it bascially was a huge waste of film cuz it was this huge over dramatized love story. give me a break. show me a documentary about the boat with actual facts. if I want to watch a love story, I will watch the Oxygen channel.

:p

I was thinking the other day that the shows with animated reconstructions of dog fights have disappeared, and I'm wondering if it's a cost problem. The common denominator of the crap content on the history channel (and the other channels mentioned) is that it's cheap. You notice on these shows about Nostradamus, etc, they don't even bother to come up with a full assortment of pictures; you see the same thing over and over while some dude reads a script.

Even R. Lee Lemy and Lock'n'Load. Someone is paying for all that ordinance, but it's still cheap compared to a full blown show with high paid stars, like NCIS.

The problem with having 500 channels available is that there isn't money for 500 channels worth of decent content, hence huge amounts of repeats, and cheap shows.

I wasn't complaining that they called the killers 'snipers', my issue with it was that they made the range sound huge, and made it sound like the hardest thing in the world.

Nothing before 800 yards qualifies as "sniping."

I stopped watching the History Channel when every other hour they seemed to be running "Ghost Hunters" or some other kind of nonsense. I like my History to have...History, you know. I guess without that B.A. in the subject I might not care as much.
