Little problem. Shot it for the first time today. I was using Hornady 110 gr V Max Whisper, but it would not cycle, after every shot you have charge it. In some cases the brass wouldn't even eject properly, would get caught in the action. What could be my problem? Was it the ammo or is something not right? would the buffer size have anything to do with it? Now this was my first AR build, so not sure what's the deal here.

Need a lot more details. Barrel brand, gas system (carbine or Pistol). Gas block used. What bolt? Did you lube the BCG very well?

Assuming this was factory ammo, my first guess would be the gas block is not aligned properly.

There are many 300BO owners that have cycling issues in an AR, esp if it's home built...and like the other two posters noted...most are gas related issues.

answer these questions:

Who made the barrel?

Who assembled the upper, mainly the gas block onto the barrel?

When its jamming, is it a "stovepipe" type jam or is the brass not being pulled out of the chamber fully before feeding another round?

Last question would help determine if its actually under-gassed or if you have an extractor problem.

i just got through with an extractor issue on a BCG i had bought from AIM. the gun shot well and even cycled subs nicely with all the other BCGs i owned, but the brand new one would not fully extract the spent brass (extractors spring was too weak) but it had enough gas to push the carrier to the rear and try and feed another round.

my first reaction would be an under-gassed issue. most likely barrel port size or gas black misalignment. FYI, i run an 8" Rock Creek barrel, pistol gas length of course, with a low-pro YHM gas block. it cycles everything, even subs unsuppressed.

1st thing to do,check the extractor for burrs, second, install an extractor upgrade kit.

this is not necessary if its purely a gas problem. the extractor may be functioning perfectly, but its not getting a chance to work if its under-gassed. i would not purchase any parts or upgrade kits until you have done the free diagnostics like checking gas port size and gas block alignment.

Other posters are correct, it is a gas problem, as in not enough. I use a rifle buffer in an A2 stock (AR BCG, not the heavier M16), and mine still cycles with 110 Gr bullets.

As Bart suggested, "check the gas key, gas tube and gas block".

Something is clogged, or not lined up right, and then there is a very slight possibility that the bleed hole in the barrel is too small.
