A couple of days ago, the most recent installment of Jeff Cooper's Commentaries (December) came out with the follwing odd and perplexing comment:

And we also note that Ruger now has a couple of new 45 caliber pistols which promise well on the drawing board

What does this mean? The 345 has been around for 6 months and if it refers to it then his commentary is about a year late. Is there another 45 in the works particularly since he states it is on "the drawing board"? Another 1911 clone? -- I wonder because I can't imagine him looking fondly on anything other than a single action semi auto pistol.

I believe he means it promises well on the drawing board because it doesn't have a street rep....yet.

Cooper has always been a practical shooter, albeit one who lives in an ivory tower, so he is holding his final opinion until the 345 has an established performance record.
