So, my buddy found three rifles in his father-in-laws attic after the man passed, a '93 Winchester, an '03 Winchester, and this poor Savage/Stevens "click-clack" Model 6B. All three were in terrible condition, but I told him I would do what I could........
That was three years ago.
I actually restored the '03 a while back, and finally got off my arse to see what could be done with the Savage. This is after 6 hours of sanding, buffing, chipping, scraping, filing, more sanding, bufffing, bluing and three coats of Tung oil.
The wood turned out really nice, I think.
As always, refinishing the small bits and pieces are the most funnerest part- not.
The ball detent for the bolt handle was missing. The detent and spring are staked in place and the handle really needs replaced, but this was a zero-budget freebie favor for afriend, so I just ran a machine screw in the hole and cut the head off.
It wont hold the bolt open, or lock it in single-shot mode anymore, but it'll do for now.
The butt-plate disintegrated when I removed it, so I just cut a bit of high-density foam for a temporary butt protector. My buddy can always order a new one if he wants to later.
Here it is all screwed back together-
Didnt get a chance to test-fire it, but the mechanism seems fine and the bore is nice and shiny. Should be a good shooter, I think.
