I'm now a Hornady LNL AP owner. Just got the package today, so I know what I'll be doing Saturday. Don't have the shell plates for it yet so no real reloading, but a lot of set up. My first progressive. Rereading all the old postings, learning from others mistakes and trying to pick up as many tips as possable.

so the LNL AP doesn't come with ANY shell plates?

I was thinking they just came separate (free) from Hornady once you decide which caliber you wanted to load, and which size of free bullets to get. :D

I wish shell plates came from Hornady after purchasing the press. Do they?

Got my press from Natchez Shooting Supply and they were out of both shell plates I wanted, #16 for .223 Rem & #1 for .45 ACP. Yeah I read they make a # 45 for .45 ACP only, but I'll try the number #1 plate, after all it's the same one for .30-06 and .308 Win also. My main purpose of the AP is to load .223 Rem. I just hated loading it on my Lee single stage. Didn't mind loading straight walled pistol cases though, go figure.

Missed the mail today. Free bullet offer goes out Monday.

I am curious to see how you will like this as I am considering upgrading from my old press to either this one or a Dillon.

Please keep us posted.:D

IIRC, Hornady used to sell it with a shell plate, but stocking different SKU's got to be too expensive for the retailers to stock enough selection, so they discontinued that.

Congrats, you wont be disappointed. I got mine about 3 weeks ago and love it. The #1 plate works fine for 45. I have put at least 200 cases of 45 through mine. Also deprimed about 1000 .223 cases and loaded about 200 of them. My first suggestion would be to get a couple more case retainer springs. I had a 223 case fall down and I didn't see it in time and crushed it and it cut my retainer spring. I quick call to Hornady got me another one, no questions asked but I cant use it until I get the new one...or at least I cant use it to full potential. I ordered a couple extras for me already too.

Enjoy your new LnL AP, it should do well for you and I too look forward to reading your comments as you set it up and run it. A lot of people have them and are running them now so help and information is only key strokes away.

You're bound to enjoy your new toy. I've got the press singing nicely after a couple little start up glitches. Here's some hints I can remember:

-Get a compressed air can and keep the shellplate area clean and all will be good.

-Don't use CCI primers with .45ACP

-Play around with the angle of the ejector wire.. it can be set up to work very well. Bigger cases are much easier. Oh and make sure your dies aren't hitting this wire when the ram is at the top.

-Make sure the cases go all the way up into the powder thru exanders till the hit the shoulder- the should is what bells. Might have to adjust the powder drop to get this to work well.

Hello all,
I had 100 30-06 shells sized and primed and ready to go tonight and dicided I'd time how long it took to load that many.
Loading the brass and bullets by hand, stopping to empty the brass catcher half way through and topping off the powder hopper, it took me less than 20 minutes.

I'm loading 150gr. bullets in front of 51.5gr. AA4064
which gives about 2900 fps. out of the Garand and the Rem 700 06:D

Well I got my Shell plates. Cabela's to the rescue. Went down to the Sportsman's Warehouse and picked up a can of Hornady's gun cleaner and dry lube. My old work bench isn't leanding itself to mounting the new press. Looking at having to fix it. I liked RobZ set up earlier this year and planing on doing something like he did.

I am just amazed by the simple complexity of the operation of my press. :D

Congrats on the new press... Just got mine today from Midway too! Got the case collater/feeder also.. Gotta get/build a new bench 1st. Been using one of those Frankford Arsenal portable stands with my Lee Turrent and it just moves around to much. Dont really have time to build one from scratch (to many other unfinished projects goin on) so I'm picking up one from Lowes tomorrow that looks pretty good. Here's a link if anyone else needs one:

byronw, let me know how you like the case feeder. I'm not there yet, but it looks nice.

My bench is the a work bench older than time. Dad picked it up at a farm sale. It's legs are eight by eights. It's heavy, great to work with once things get mounted to it, mounting is the hard part. Plus has to move my Lee press out of the way. Thinking of boxing my shotshell reloader up for the time being. More room for bullets and empties and eventually loaded ammo.
