That would be me. I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while.

When I moved from NYC to Florida a month ago, I figured that I might as well register :)

Can't wait to actually start a collection, now that I am "free" :)

Welcome to THR, hope your time here is most productive, informative, and fun:cool:

So, what is your immediate desire for a first firearm?

Just in time for the AWB to go away too.

Funny, isn't it? I consider it a sign that I absolutely must start a collection.

So, what is your immediate desire for a first firearm?

Well, I'd love to go and buy myself a ton of evil black rifles with bayonet lugs and folding stocks and such, but my tight budget is probably going to have me starting off with a Ruger 10/22.

Next, I'd probably go after a 1911 and a .22lr conversion kit :)

Sekdar,

Good choices for first guns, although if you are getting a handgun for self-defense, and if you are an inexperienced shooter, a lighter caliber will probably be more effective, as it will make follow-up shots easier. But my first handgun was a 1911, so I know how it feels. I've gone to .38 Special, but I'll get back into the 1911 game asap.

thanks for the warm welcomes :)

i live in central florida, in Spring Hill, a smallish town north of Tampa Bay.

i intend to pursue a CCW when i'm of legal age, but for now i'll have to settle with paper punching :)

fistful, i'm thinking of a 1911 because i love the design. i want to start out with a .22/use one for plinking because of how cheap the ammo is, but i have yet to find a pistol that i LIKE in 22lr, so i figured i'd get a 1911 and a .22 conversion kit for plinking. if, when i get around to getting a ccw, i'm still using that same gun (tight budget, remember? :D), i'd be able to switch to a .45 chambering as needed.

thanks for the advice, though. i learn something new here every day.

Ex-Lurker, eh?

We need MORE of these ex-lurking types. We oughta go on a recruiting drive.

Sekdar, hail and well-met. Glad to have you aboard as a fellow HighRider. I expect you'll enjoy it here, as a more polite and well-mannered InterNet forum you are unlikely to find.

Ooh, you registered! Seen the Roundtable yet? Yes in fact there IS just a bit more to this place than guns and RKBA.

So long as we keep it all civil, of course. Politeness MATTERS.

Edit. Sha-HEESH! I type like an amateur! Mus' be 'cuz I am. No secretary, me! ;)

Spring Hill, watched 'em build that place... Nice area. Drive down to Clearwater and hit Coles' Guns on the corner of Douglas and Sunset Point Road. Serious old time shop with good people running it.
