ok, I did my taxes today, and should recieve my refund in about 10-15 days. I've decided I'll buy one gun with my refund, and save the rest, since my savings account needs help. so, I call upon you, the THR member, to help me fill a hole in my collection, such as it is. I'm lacking many things, but in particular, I'm trying to get a good collection of WWII weapons started. so, in that vein, I'm looking at an M1 Garand or a Luger (always liked the Luger.). I'm also lacking a 1911, so I'm looking at a Colt 1991A1, since I like plain-jane, mod-free (within reason) 1911s. then, also, I'd like to have a wowee-zowee, this guys crazy fun gun. for that, i was looking at a Glock 20 (that's the 10mm, right?) or perhaps a used Delta Elite in good shape. help me out, people!

Get the Garand.

Like Comic Book Guy says - "Best...Gun...Ever"

And it's pretty much linked to WWII (though of course it saw service in Korea/Vietnam), so starting a collection without having a Garand is heresy. Plus it fires a common, practical caliber - try buying boxes of .303 British and 8mm Mauser in the nearest Wally World!

yeah, the M1 will probably be the cheapest option, too, from the CMP, at least. that was the first thing I thought of, but I felt I'd be remiss in not considering other options. now, this wouldn't be my first WWII weapon; I've got a 1943 91/30 right now. but dang, that Luger is sexy! :neener:

For me, it'd come down to either the M1 or the Luger. Personally, I'd probably go with the Luger since I tend to shoot handguns more than long guns, and have always kinda wanted a Broomhandle and/or a Luger.

I'd look for the M1 and the Luger, and see which one appears first in the form of a decent deal.

hehehe.... any of y'all know anyone who could make me up a good IWB holster for a Luger?? because you know if I get one, I'll have to carry it occasionally. :D

buy the 1911

Buy the 1911. Deltas are great I love mine, but the NRM Colts are nice also. Bottom line is how can you not have a 1911? A luger before a 1911 ???????? come on guys he doesn't want to look at it he wants to shoot it, Lugers are notoriously fussy. A shoot it once in a blue moon safe queen.

An M1 garand is a great rifle, but the cost of shooting a 06 regularly in any quantity is going to get expensive quick.

Get a 1911 or if you have to have a WWII ( youre going to pay) get a Waffen marked High Power. A polish Radom is a decent WWII pistol also.

I like Colts, but even Springers and Kimbers are better choices than than a Luger. Deltas are a little hard to find if one doesn't show up up get a 45ACP or 38 Super. A new series 70 Colt is a good bet, and the WWI repro's if you can find them are awesome. I was at a shop today I was looking at a original WWI with the government markings, it was sold, otherwise it would be mine. You didn't go into budget numbers but I since you were looking at a 1991 I am guessing it is around or under $600, the NRM 1991 are very good value for that price mark, you should be able to pick one up around the $550-$560 range.

Once you have a bunch a pistols revisit the Luger they are interesting and collectable, but you will shoot a 1911 a whole lot more.

IF I get a tax return it's barely enough to cover some utility bills for a month! I'm already estimating that I'll have to pay quite a pretty penny this year.

Anyone know any tricks for us poor single guys on tax breaks? I just bought a house, and part of that decscion was to be able to deduct the interest....

ok, that's that, then, I guess. I'll be getting an M1 Garand in mere weeks, and I'll be sending in my C&R paperwork soon, too. then I'll be on the hunt for a Sistema to satisfy my 1911 urges. thanks for the input, everyone!

yeah, I can't wait.. I'm going down to fort perry to pick it up in person, so I can look through them. *rubs hands in anticipation*

anyone know of anyone other than cruffler.com that has Sistemas in stock? cruffler.com doesn't look like it's been updated in a loooong time, and I"m wondering whether they're actually still selling them..
