You don't know exactly how many you own ???
So, I guess if I was able to steal one of them, you wouldn't even notice that it's missing? ~

Ok just counted its 7.

I am kind of surprised that this thread degenerated into a discussion about the distance I was shooting from. I was at the range for crying out loud. I agree sixty feet is a kind of long self defense distance, but at the range whats the problem? I figure if I can hit at 60 feet, and can for sure hit at 6.

If 60 feet is too far to shoot in self defense, then why do police departments qualify their officers at 75?

I am a 1911 owner also. I own 7 or 8 of them. No one ever asks me why I own so many of them though

Probably because we assume each of them is a bit unique. I'd think it odd to own 3 or four Springer GI's just the same as 3 or 4 G19's. Some guns I understand a matched pair, but I've never met anyone with 3 hands ;). But to each his own. It's your money :)

I am pretty sure he was making a joke.

That's what we have all those emoticons for; So people don't take you seriously when you're not. There are also ways to articulate sarcasm in plain ol' text, but that was not done, either.

So you took a 600 yard pistol shot seriously? Man, life has to be tough on you.

Yea, I know it seems a little strange. I have pretty much owned nearly everything at one time or another, including Sig, Rugers, Berettas, Colts, Kimbers, Springfields, Glocks, S&W's, and Kel Tecs.

So over time I discovered that there were only two that I really liked, and that would be Glocks and 1911s. So I have pretty much streamlined my automatics down to those. I keep one Beretta 92 around because it was given to me as a present. I keep a Ruger LCP around for pocket carry. But all my other autos are either Glocks or 1911s.

This has certain advantages when it comes to logistics. I don't have to worry about scrounging around for the right magazine, for example. If I break a recoil spring or trigger reset spring or whatever, I can grab a spare pretty easy.

Careful.

personal attacks are prohibited. You can disagree with other members, even vehemently, but it must be done in a well-mannered form. Attack the argument, not the arguer.

And, when read in context, is it so difficult to see where one may take a seemingly silly statement at face value?

In the Columbine school shooting, the cops engaged the evil kids from as much as 60 yards away. In rural areas you might have to engage someone even farther away. You may even need a 17L to take those 600 yard shots.

The 600 yard statement is preceeded with both an example of, and an allusion to the need for, long range pistol shooting.

I wanna use the rolly eyes emoticon right now.

Why no love for the G17 ?

I think you're messed up or stuck or something.

The G26 should be the backup for your G19 which should be the backup for your G17 which should be the backup for your G34 which should be the backup for your 17L

See how it works?

I think you probably meant to buy a G26 or a G17 but you're like a broken record... you just keep going: 19....19... 19... 19... 19...

It's not backup as most people know it. It's more like condition where people can't stop themselves from buying extras of same thing. There were shows where people converted part of their dwelling into supermarket.......10 sticks of deodorant, 1000 rolls of toilet paper,...... I ran across a guy at LGS looking at ole' Winchester 70 .375H&H. I thought it was too much gun for PA hunter and something like .308 would be more suitable. His response was I own 50 Winchesters.

Another perfect Glock

I'm guessing a perfect Glock would have a better trigger, a better grip, a less slippery slide, better fit & finish, and the same great reliability.

Oh yeah - and it would say "Walther" on the side. :D

I can rush you from 60 feet away with a knife and plunge it into your chest before you clear your holster. So can your mom, or sister, or anyone with two working legs.
You, your mom, sis, etc, must all be Olympic class sprinters.
A good NFL player can do a 4.4 second 40-yard dash. Not many others can.
The "reasonable man's standard" (if there is one) is the Tueller standard of 21 feet.

Well, if he owned eight, and you stole one, he might not notice... :)

I was referring to a 20-yard dash, not a 40-yard dash, so that's only a couple of seconds and you're at a disadvantage.

Mach, I am sorry I hurt your feelings. If there was an emoticon for a nice warm hug, I would display it now.

Hurt? Hardly. That was merely a courteous reminder of the rules here. You may debate with me and others until the cows come home, but your points will remain more valid without direct or ad hominem personal attacks indicating your argument is otherwise weak.

Best of luck to you. I don't think I'd try to charge an armed man from 20 yards, unless I was suicidal. And I'm in pretty good shape.

I'm going to buy a second G19 in the near future to back up my first one. There are two main reasons for this. First, if the first one breaks, I'll have another one to use and not have a different manual of arms to contend with. The second reason is that no matter what the cost is now, buy the time my grandsn is ready for one, the cost will be more. I'll already have him one ready to go.

I too have several 1911's and don't have a thing about owning several guns of the same caliber and model. I have a friend who has 4 Sig 226's. He just likes them. That's OK with me.

What are the chances you will be shooting at a bad guy at 60 feet?

Why would that matter? I can promise you that when you get proficient at 20 or 25 or 50 yards you will find that you are amazingle great at the shorter distances, like self defense distances.

I compete at 25 and 50 yards in bullseye with a pistol. Its a good skill.

What exactly do you think the ad hominem was? And ad hominem, by its nature, should cause some degree of personal injury. If you did not take insult and were not hurt, then I don't see why you are saying it was an ad hominem.
