Dog Mauls Boy Waiting For Bus

Child Sufferes Lacerations To Scalp, Injuries To Left Leg, Left Ear

SEVEN POINTS, Texas -- A 4-year-old boy was in stable condition Monday night in a Dallas hospital after he was mauled by a pit bull while waiting for a school bus near Seven Points.

The child, Jonathan Shane Ivey, suffered lacerations to his scalp and injuries to his left leg and his left ear, said Lt. Pat McWilliams, spokesman for the Henderson County Sheriff's Department.

McWilliams said the dog that attacked the boy, who was waiting with two older siblings for the Mabank school bus, was on a chain but was still able to reach the roadway, the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported in its Tuesday editions.

A man alleged to be the dog's owner was attacked when he tried to rescue the boy. The dog didn't release Jonathan until the man got a gun and shot and killed the dog, McWilliams said.

Authorities were trying to determine through vaccinations and other records who owned the animal.

The boy was flown by helicopter to Children's Medical Center Dallas for treatment.

The sheriff's investigation of the mauling will be turned over to prosecutors to determine if charges should be filed, McWilliams said.

Another responsible pet owner

Subtle implication here is that a cop might need to kill any pet and be justified in doing so, since it MIGHT be vicious.

Okay ... someone's got to ask, so it might as well be me:

What is a 4-year old boy doing waiting for a school bus with or without siblings?

Hope he recovers fully and quickly.

Sad.

Composition class - is dat ennyding too due with compost heap?

BTw, what's the confusion about? While waiting for the bus, the dog mauled the boy.

So he left out details of how and why the owner was attacked?

Could be anything from the guy was just standing there and said "That's my dog" up to he actively tried to prevent the shooting of the dog.

Seems like that would be pretty relevant to the story.
