Eighty-two-year-old Josephine Slater never even flinched when she was confronted by a masked bandit with a sawed-off shotgun inside her Midland bar and restaurant.

The owner of Josephine's Bar and Restaurant calmly threw $1 bills at the man and then pulled out a loaded handgun that she keeps under the counter.

"If you don't get out of here, I'll shoot you right now," the octogenarian told the would-be robber. "I'm not about to put up with any crap right off the street."

What makes it really strange, as the article points out, is that she recognized him as one of the regulars. I thought that one of the first rules of doing crime was "Don't let anyone know it was you"

There is a reason that most professional/habitual criminals avoid mom and pop establishments.

Perhaps our boy should have studied up a bit.

It's amazing she didn't get blown away while she was yelling at the guy.

In fact, Pilgrim, that is the central point of all good self-defense training armed or unarmed. Don't act according to your role in his script. Make him react to you. It puts you in control and him behind.

Actually, the first rule is: "Don't commit the crime unless you can do the time." Altogether too many criminals these days have never heard of it, and so end up doing time.
