My daughter brought her boyfriend home with her this weekend, nice kid.
Found out he's 22 years old, never even held a real gun before. Sounds like his parents are borderline liberals, mom may even have ties to PETA.
My son and I asked him if he wanted to go shooting, he agreed. :D
Started him out slow, explained the four rules and went over each gun and it's characteristics and controls before he picked them up. We didn't do any shooting for groups, didn't shoot any paper at all just plinked at empty coffee cans and other targets of opportunity. Set up some targets but thought it might be better the first time to concentrate on safety and form and not worry much abut marksmanship.
Started out with .22's, my custom 10/22 and a Beretta NEOS. Moved up to a M1 carbine complete with evil bayonet. We had been watching the History Chanel and show about D-Day before we left, I told him this type of rifle was carried ashore during the invasion. He said he thought it looked kinda old.
From there we went to a Marlin 1894 lever gun in .41 mag. then a 6" GP100 loaded with .38 special. He handled it OK so I loaded a cylinder full of .357's and warned him the recoil would be stouter than before, he handled it fine. Next came the Kimber 45acp. He put a couple of mags through it. Finished up with some more plinking with the .22's and started to load up.
He was all smiles and said he really wanted to get a gun for himself now, and the .45 was his favorite :D :D
Told him that was great but if he still wanted to get one after he got back home to start out easy, find an instructor and get a .22 or a 357 revolver and shoot .38's until he gained confidence.
All & all it was a great day.
